What's Your Favorite WAHOONBOX Tip, Story or Fishing Experience?

Well, I will start this thread since I have known WAHOONBOX longer than anyone.

The Box has always been a fishing innovator. I think I was about 6 years old when he discovered how to catch big Largemouth Bass with a flyrod and a little tiny plastic worm by walking the banks of the local lake and keeping his bait about 2 feet off the bank. THIS HAD TO BE HIS FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH A DINK BAIT.

Maybe it was talking the Captain of a Coast Guard ship into letting him drive the work boat so he could fish.

Or was it that first trip with Little George?

Naw, it was that first tournament win with Gene and Bill. What a celebration, only like the Box could do it.

    You tell me.

What was your favorite Wahoonbox ACTION or tip or story?

Can't wait to hear sissy on this one, maybe even PONEYTAIL.

Bonus Points for all pictures posted and if you have an embarrassing Box photo, well I will forever be indebted.

Just followed one of Box's TIP... Don't go cheap on the fluocarbon for bluefin or even yellowfin... Just put new line on the buffalo guns topped with 30 meters of that fluo. I hope to see a difference when lines go in the water!
Second rigging tip is that chaffing electrical tube... Haven't spotted it on the market maybe Box could sell me a tube...
Wish he'd come fish on our dingy one day so we can check the real secrets...

The planer bridal system. Caught 8 yft on it in my last two trips. Even caught a wmarlin earlier this year as well as many wahoos and mahi. Single greatest thing anyone has ever showed me to put meat in the box. Thanks Box.

Every time I've been around the man, it has been a good time, but my favorite, hands down, was the Biscuit family fishing trip on the RUN-OFF with the Box and the Beast, memorial weekend 2005. Brian found and Marty hung the first billfish for each of my two sons. A rat blue for Jason (Lil' Biscuit) and a pretty sail for Phillip (pictured)

Hoping for many more good times with the Box.

I experienced this tip this summer.. the bridal system was a great tip!.... but, my all time favorite story would have to be his Rio stories.

    It truely a SMALL world

So I'm driving home from the beach from what can be classified as no less a shitty two days of "Non Fishing" (see OC Report) and you wont believe who and what I saw!! I'm' just west of Easton, MD and traveling y regular 70 or so mph and I come up to this small blue pick up with a beat old brown cap. Well I notice that this truck has a sportfisherman.com sticker. Well I get up along side of the truck and notice something a little odd. In the back of the truck was what appeared to be a bobcat. Yup that's a bobcat alright and its poised to attack through the window of the cap.

Ok we need to step back here for a second and evaluate what it is I'm actually seeing here. A blue little pickup with a shit brown cap on the bed that looks like it was the original prototype for the truck cap inventor. Man this thing was ugly! And I'm seeing a bobcat in the bed that is what appears to be attacking the window. WTF!!

I pull along side of the truck and think, you've gotta be f-ing kidding me. Wat the hell is he doing here! Isn't he supposed to be slaying monster tuners. Yes that's right it was one other than MR BOX himself!! Now get the picture, I'm in the middle of corn country eastern shore Maryland, traveling home from an uneventful two days of non action offshore, and i see the box driving down the road in his little blue ford that you all have seen equipped with a shit brown cap and loaded with a pissed off stuffed bobcat.

As soon as he See's me along side him I get the classic Marty smile. You all that have met him know the smile I'm talking about. He motions me to pull in front of him so I do and pull off into a cornfield. I immediately get out of the truck and there is Marty filming away classic Marty style.

Not being on the board lately I didn't know he was in route to hunt on the eastern shore with Often and Anthony's Ark. So was traveling up from North Carolina to the eastern shore when we crossed paths. Well with a quick exchange of conversation he was off for his much important meeting with whitetails. So away we go, Marty filming away and me just shaking my head with thinking of what just transpired!

I'll let Marty explain the Bobcat!!!

    A still bewildered Capt-D

There are so many tips it is hard to pick one. I don't know if this fits by my favorite BOX experience was him sending me some parts for the boat I'm building. He sent me a few cleats and all kids of leader line, lures and even outrigger clips. I have the cleats he sent mounted midships. I guess his generosity is my favorite experience.

    Where to start

After over 10 years in the cockpit with the Box and two lifetimes
in his shops I am going to have to give this some serious thought.

Maybe a chapter for his book.

I know I have shared this story a few times on here but it never gets old to me.

Sorry Marty, I have to tell this one. I had chartered the Run-Off for a tuna trip in March. Me, Brother Joe, Nephew Joey, "Bitemysister" from this board and a buddy of my brothers. half way through the day Marty asked us all to huddle around the chair. He explained in painstakin 5 minute detail the procedure during a hook up. It was a monumental speech given like only the BOX can give. He said when a fish hits or the rigger pops just calmly go to that reel and start to crank. DON'T PICK UP THE ROD!!!!. Well we broke the huddle and not 3 SECONDS later a tuna hit the left long. MY brother's buddy runs to the rod, picks it up, trys to set the hook like he is bass fishing, somehow gets turned around facing brian on the bridge and the rod and reel over his shoulder like he is holding a rifle. The look on his face was like when a 8 yr old throws a baseball through the neighbors window. Marty just shook his head, calmly looked at the guy and said," WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND THROW THE WHOLE DAMN ROD IN THE OCEAN".

    Priceless BOX Moment!!!
