    What is in your MAHI???

I caught some gaffers last week that had some interesting things inside their belly. The one had a few small coral pieces and three sea horses!! There were some other unidentified fish vertebrate but that was pretty cool looking. I am so sorry I didn't get a picture because that would have made the best clueless ever! Half digested sea horses.

    What have yal been finding???

All kinds of stuff... the two that first come to mind are pufferfish, which is very common down in Baja (how many lures look like a pufferfish?), and I found a couple baby marlin (3-4 inches long) once in a large bull.

Weedlines are full of seahorses and small puffers as well as assorted crabs and shrimp which they also eat.

Couple of years ago I saw a big bull with a lump in his belly at Pirates Cove. When he was cut open, it was an empty yogurt cup, packaged in Panama! So much for trying to have your baits just so!

Funny thing is that I caught a Blackfin Tuna today and, with the marine biologist there, gutted it and found a Seahorse in it's stomach. She told us that it was a male waiting for the babies. Apparently, the males carry the young until they are big enough. The Seahorse was fully in tact and I saved it. I will try to post a pic of it tomorrow. I like to see what fish are eating, so I usually cut the stomach open to figure it out.

I had funny things come out of Mhai, A leatherback turtle about 2 inches, peaces from a Kona and some seriously spiny fishes. Marlin have some funny stuff in them to I’ve taken a 10kg squid, groupers and spiny fishes from a 90kg Blue. Some time ago I received a mail from a friend which showed a bill sticking out of the side of a Blue. I imagined It must have eaten a small marlin of Sail.
I don’t think There is a set menu on most fishes they eat what they get. I had a surprising luck one day on the way home from a fishing trip when I decided to drag a rigged mullet for a King some time went by and I passed thru some weed floating on the top, my crew told me that I have crap dragging with. I had a look and was not really concerned at the time because it looked like a real mess at the end of the line and I felt the crew can sort out the mess once they are done with the clean up. Moments later the reel screamed like it was hooked on to a other boat going the opposite direction. First I thought the Crew are playing a trick on me but when I noticed a young Black jumping about 100m from the boat I took it seriously.
There it is a Marlin that attacked and ate a bunch of Grass , maybe it looked like a Tuna on the feed to him.
