I'll answer that in a minute. Saturday we hosted Paul O'Brien and his group from Green, N.Y (upper N.Y. state). Keep in mind that 3 out of 4 guys have never even gone for bluefish before, and their first saltwater exposure is a canyon trip! We left the dock in the morning and our first stop 100 miles away was the South Tom's Canyon. Shortly after setting up on the troll we had the mixed blessing of coming up on a floating pallet, and seven rods went down, with several reels screaming! A couple of minutes later, the charter was able to reel in 2 mahi, and one Braid Runner that looked like it had been worked over by a hacksaw. Wahoos! Four tuna lures rigged on mono were bitten clean off. By the time we got organized and rerigged, I wasn't able to find the pallet again, which was a good thing in terms of saving tackle, but bad because I had broken out my wire rigged wahoo lures. After spending a couple more fruitless hours exploring the South, Middle, and main Tom's Canyons, I ran 27 miles north to the Hudson. Setting up on the troll we hooked up to a beautiful 60lb class yellowfin that Paul was able to bring to the gaff. We decided to overnite there and while we were setting up for the chunk, a 300 lb class Blue Marlin decided to greyhound right next to the boat. Definately not something you see everyday if you are from upstate N.Y. The overnite chunk was slow, with the party releasing one small mako. The next morning we worked our way back, another canyon trip etched in our minds (Now I sound like Flip Pallet!) Tight Lines--Rich
