What a Day Aboard the Runoff!!!

I haven't had a chance to get this up, but wanted to before it was out of date.

If it had feathers or fins, it was not safe at the hands of Box!!! A friend of mine and fellow rodbuilder, joined me for a day of carnage aboard the Runoff.
This was absolutely not a sippin soda and reelin fish trip. From the ride out til we pulled the last line out at the end of the day, it was a learning experience. It was great to learn from Capt Brian and Box as they opened their books of knowledge and filled my head with more information than it could hold.
Let me tell you, if you want to go and learn? Then Capt Brian and Box is the way to go!!!
Sporty was an understatement as we ended up going out in the morning with a front at our 6. It finally caught us and then the day became interesting. Had some sizable rollers all day long with some big rollers mixed in that forced us to troll halfway home until out line was a little more doable to port.

We ended up with 10 nice gaffers and one Blue Marlin. We lost a really good bull on the first fish of the day that was reeled by my buddy that did his best, but had never been out there before. It was a really good fish. He felt bad and we all felt bad. It wasn't the first and won't be the last lost fish. So close. 2 less seconds and he would have been sticking out of the fish box.
We caught gaffers on the traditional trolling rods but also trolled my 240G Angler's Envy jigging Rod, Spiral wrapped, on a flat line with the hopes of getting a good fish ( one with a big nose) on it. We got one gaffer on it and it was a good fight!!!
If any of you guys want to learn, get with Box and get some days on the books. The learning that went on that day was awesome and a price tag can't be put on it.
Thanks again Box for your hospitality and Brian for imparting your knowledge into my head. Valuable to say the least. Looking forward to the next trip in June right before the Big Rock!!!

See you guys soon with gifts in hand!!!

Congrats Kevin, I agree about learning from Box and Brian. Not only do they know their stuff, but they both enjoy teaching other people.

I have a trip booked for the end of the month and have been counting days for quite awhile now.

    Congrats on a great day.

I'm glad to see those pointy fish have shown up with the gaffers.

Tell us more about the blue one. Where'd he swim in and what'd he eat? They definitely love that black boat.
