    Thumbs up What a....Crappie Day

I have seen lots of pictures of Boyce's Crappie slaughters in the past. I mentioned that I would love to come give it a try sometime. Well, last week Boyce gave us the invite to join him this weekend for some world class Crappie fishing.

So, my son and I left the house at 0430 Saturday morning and headed that way. We met Boyce and Billy at Hardee's at 0700 for some breakfast and then we headed to the lake.
It was pretty cold in the morning when we started out. The lake was partly covered with fog in certain spots. It was my first time on Jordan lake and I was really surprised how beautiful it was. The trees were different colors around the entire lake with Fall setting in. By the afternoon we were down to t-shirts.

This was the first time John and I had been Crappie fishing. So we were both very interested to see how this operation ran. When I heard we were going to troll 14 rods I was thinking to myself that this is going to be a heck of an experience. We had 6 rods on the front of the boat and 8 rods on the stern. Boyce has a pretty sweet setup on his Skiff for Crappie fishing. His trolling motor is remote control so he can drive it from anywhere in the boat. His rod holders on the front and back are all adjustable which was very convenient as well. He also has 2 sounders, 1 in front and 1 in the back. We trolled live minnows all day long on just about all the rods.

I was surprised to see how hard these fish fought based on their size. We had an absolute blast all day long catching these fish. We fished multiple spots on the lake and caught fish everywhere we went. It was a completely different experience for us to say the least. My son and I had an awesome time and we are looking forward to doing it again soon. Boyce told me there is some great Bass fishing up that way in the Spring. We definitely want to get in on some of that action.

We ended up catching 32 keepers for the cooler. We probably threw back another 10 keepers that were legal and another 20 that were under the limit that we threw back.

Thanks for a great time Boyce. We really did enjoy ourselves and we appreciate the invite. We will do it again soon.

Great pictures John! We posted at just about the same time so there will be 2 reports on this trip but I'm sure it won't be the first time that's happened. Billy and I had a blast and we are already planning the spring trip, but, it will involve 2 days. 1 day bass fishing and the other crappie fishing. The springtime bite is much better and sometimes you get a surprise like this bass we were telling you guys about. Our friend Caelob with this 8.5 large mouth caught on Jordan while trolling for crappies 2 yrs. ago. Imagine catching this on those ultralight rods! Thanks for a great day and come back anytime my friend!

So, we go downeast and you come up to the piedmont!
That is some good crappie fishing...
You must have heard quite a few gunshots in the distance! Patrick & Austin may have gone right by you guys with a limit of ducks if you were on the northern part of Jordan...

We heard shotgun and rifle blast all morning. John caught over 100 trout and drum on Friday. When I heard that I told him to forget the crappies, I need to come to MHC!
