What Can I do For You?

    Guys,
Fishing is why we are all here. What can I do to provide content and discussion related to fishing. While I am not the guru of setting spreads, rigging lures, navigation or how to fix a bilge pump, I CAN provide some insight into the one thing that each and every one of you use when you go fishing. RODS.......

As most of you probably know, I am not a spammer and I don't just go around willy nilly throwing up crap and hoping that something sticks.

What do you guys and gals want to know about or have questions about. This time of year, its tough to drum up content when everyone is NOT fishing..... This is the time of year when we as fishermen should be fine tuning our equipment and replacing the worn stuff so that our trips int he spring are productive and FUN!

So, let me know and we can get some information rolling here. There are many rodbuilders on the site so it's not just me, but open to all to SHARE information and hopefully get some important points to the top for all to learn about.

If you want me to go back and crawl under my rock, you can tell me that also.

Kevin made some great education stuff awhile back. As always we all want to learn.

Sometimes people forget that alot of fishermen need the basics.
Not all of us are novice. Hell I forget how to snelll a hook

You know this membership wants and has a thirst for education you give you will set a great example.

    Happy New Year.

    I have a rod related question -

We have a common problem on a lot of our rods, both chair and stand-up style. The heavy drags that we are using to fight large tunas and marlin are putting a tremendous amount of stress on the reel seats, and we are finding that a lot of them are now coming loose and spinning. Major problem!

What do you recommend? In the past i've re-alligned the seat with the blank, drilled through the reel seat and the blank, and put a set-screw in to prevent future spinning. I'm pretty sure this is not a good idea though, is there anything else that might work? Or should we send the rods back to the manufacturer for a tune up?

haha....I had to vote for go away and shut up you loser just to see how many people had done so.

    answer.......me....33% of the voting public.

    ..........

In all seriousness just keep sharing the rods that you're making and new techniques that you've come up with.

I'm not a rod maker, and I'll probably never be, but as a fisherman I love seeing the beautiful rods that come out of your shop.

Also i wanted to add that this is a problem on rods from almost every manufacturer we've received rods from over the years.

And i'm also curious as to how many others have experienced this same problem?

    Kevin,

I know it would be a lot of work but I would love to see one of your rod builds documented via video from beginning to end ... leaving out any proprietary secrets of course

I am a woodworker and learned a LOT of what I know from sites like www.thewoodwhisperer.com and the like.

I am not planning on getting into rod-building but it sure would be cool to see how it all comes together, piece by piece.

    Just a thought!
