Fishing in a shark tournament years ago out of OC Md.
Out around the dog with 3 buddies when we noticed a patch of very strange water not to far from us. Dirferent color, almost flat like a chum or oil slick out around the 30 fathom line. Werent doing anything where we were so we plulled in all lines, buckets, oil drip and headed over to take a look.
Crystal clear blue water, big temp break. And I swear,
everyone of us on that boat was looking at the water when, Damn, If there wasn't a blue Marlin right under the boat on the starboard side. That was the prettiest thing I have ever seen out there. Picture perfect.
Appears a finger of the Gulf stream came in that day. Weed lines, Life everywhere. We all agreed, Lets fish this. Forget
sharks, an opportunity like this doesn't come around every day. Bottom line, we didn't cacth anything that day.
I've had much better catchin days but,
it was awesome just to be there and see/fish it.

The one I will remember most is the day my 5 yr old son caught his first white marlin. He did it on stand up. Equally as fun was to watch him hook 8 sails in one day when he was 12. And his first blue marlin on espadon.

wow thats tough to pick just one. But i guess it would have been last yr. we did an overnight charter i was working the pit of the Sea Cure and we had a group of guys on board with 2 young sons.
Well we were in the fish thick as theives and the one lil guy asked if he could jig for tuna. So i took a safety chain around the trevala rod w/ an avet lx and i told him drop down to colors start to lift the rod up and down and hold on backed the drag off a bit and before we knew it the boy was screaming that something was wrong as the rod was against the rail and the fight was one about 10 minutes later w a lil help stabilizing the rod he landed an 80lb class yft what a smile and later his dad was fighting a tuna the lil boy said dad your taking forever i caught mine much faster and after he landed the fish the lil guy looked at his dads tuna and said thats little dad why did u struggle so much lol thats what fishings about to me now wanting to help people catch their first fish hell remember that night for years to come.

If it doesnt matter where offshore it was...

my 13th birthday fishing with my fathers good friend john dudas on the l&h out of key biscayne florida.. had a rough season start for sails and when we got down there it didnt seem like a good day for it.. got out of the inlet and decided ot head off and cobia fish.. well soon enough we got into the cobia keeping 10 fish up to 60 lbs and releasing 10 more fish within an 2 hours..

didnt know it but they entered me into the miami metropolitan tournament and ended up winning the junior release division.

after that we decided to try for some sails.. everyone was complaining as they were not catching much.. we stopped and i helped them start the kites out and rigging baits..

set them out and it began.. we went 7/7 on sails and headed back to the dock.. no one else had a sail flag flying but we had plenty of dirty laundry...
what a great day!!

Hard to pick..

The first day I ever ventered offshore and saw the color of the cobalt blue gulstream water I knew I was in trouble. We caught about 20 yellowfins that day. It's hard to say what is the best day, I'll say the first day I saw the gulfstream and the last day I fished last Sat. and watched a father and son catch a double header on the sails. Everyday is the best because even if the fishing sucks you still witness something that can never be duplicated again. The next best day will be the next time I get to go!

I have had many best days. The one that stands out the most was the late summer of 86. My dad had a slammer trip in the mud hole hooking 2 giants landing one. I think they ended up with 16 yellows average was 100 pound. My dad got 4 buddies father togeather to go the following year witch was 86. It was my bday present. I was going to point judith to go tuna fishing aboard the fish trap. I was all happy no sleep that night. We got to the boat and you could see and listen to the masts of sail boats slapping around. The capt said its going to be too snotty out there. Lets stay in side bass fishing. My dad said hell no. Well it was 10 foot rollers just past block. We where trolling. The boat stopped to set the lines out I started to hurl. I was sea sick. I went to sleep. 4hrs later I woke to screaming reels. They where skippies. The capt set out 113h reels to make it fun. We all took turns. I caught a couple then it was my buddys dads turn to hurl. My turn came around again. I told the mate I want to do it by my self. I grabbed the rod. The mate for some reason cleared all the rods. I had no clue. The capt yelled down to my dad help him get thsi fish in. I beat my dad off the rod let me do it. The mate coached me threw it. 45 minutes later I landed my first blue fin tuner. 117 lbs. Oh yea this fish was faught out of a chair.

I also had my 16 bday with my best friend. long story short 1mako 125 ,34 lbs yellowfin, 4 brown sharks.

Something about bday. 24th Saw my first white boy 5 miles south of montauk while scallop fishing he spent the day eating scallop guts. Also had a school of giants eating skate monkfish and what evcer else came up in the dredge.

25th bday hooked 3 giant tuna on a 114h.

29th landed and a man in a blue suit 450lbs.

Home Port: Ocean City, MD
Best Catch: The little guy in the pic!
Occupation: That's a good question?
It wasn't offshore but I remember my daughter was about 4 years old and I took her fishing in the Bodkin from the shore. She caught her first fish ever, a catfish and has loved fishing every since. Watching her catch her first yellowfin, a 108 pounder, was one of my highlights offshore. She only weighed aboout 100#s and would not let anybody else touch the rod. The guys on board were put to shame that day!

hmmmm....so far, the one that has topped the list!

it was my first time and first day ever in costa rica....the night before my new found "family" had given me one hell of a sugar cane headache.....people got in to fights..we laughed we cried...i tried to drive stick....it was an all out unforgetable fiasco........

when i wake up the next morning i hear the engines running....i could barely see through the amount of chrome gnats, but i could tell there was someone standing over me.....My Brother in law!!! WAKE UP RICKY.....WERE LEAVIN!!!!!! i stumble out of the bedroom and realize we are on are way....it was noon!! How long have we been fishing is the only thing i could manage to say.....apparantly we all had a pretty rough morning and we had just left! so i quickly get a shower...try to revive myslef with a philsen and some pineapple and make it up to the bridge......First thing i see is a giant sail free jumpin in the distance....HOLY CHIT! there he is!..........lets go check him out...Nah, im not were i want to go yet.....then another one...and another one...i think i saw 12 billfish free jump before i finally realized.....i wasnt in cape may any more.............so i finally go down stairs and apologize for my behavior the night...and yell at the two brothers for getting me so tanked before we were supposed to go fishing!!!

Line go in, spreads been laid out.....and were off. The humm of the motor matched the humming from my headache....it was rough (but it was great at the same time)....no more than 10 mins go by and we got up in the spread...pitchin a bait to him...aobut a 175lb. 200+ sailfish....Im ecstatic......

"Ricky....he is all yours, get your butt over here!!" so i put the belt on and were off.....captains backing down like a maniac....waters is drenching me..(I AM TOTALLY AWAKE BY NOW) and he is released.......Awesome!!!!.....sent the spread back out...and 5 mins pass and theres another one.....RICKY ITS ALL YOU....... multiply that by 18....yes 18.

my butt was whipped from front to back........everybody thought it was hilarious....im in the corner of the cockpit by number 12 sayin i cant catch another one!!!...they called bs and straped the shoulder harness on me. 17 sails and a blue.....nothing has ever topped that day since then.....It was a dream, and i sometimes still cant believe it happened. once we decided to pull everything in and head back....it was around 5pm............im helpin put everything away and out of the corner of my i i see one brother lunge to the left and one to the right. they had me by both sides....picked me up....and yelled 1......2.......3 - they must have thrown me about 15 feet off the boat in to the middle of the pacific ocean.......im cursin, and yellin and gagin on water ( i wasnt prepared at all)..................they finally get me back up...and all i hear is "thats what you get for sayin you cant do it"

Those words have never left my lips again. When we got back in........i was showered and dressed and ready for another night out......with out the rum
