My wife just informed me that I've been offshore 7 weekends in a row. Didn't seem like that much, but who's counting. She says she would greatly appreciate seeing my face this weekend, so I said "of course honey, anything for you" (she doesn't need to know about the 4-6 or that the oil needs changing)
In the past few weeks, I've learned a few things that might be good to pass along:
1. Dripless shaft seals are not foolproof and need to be properly installed to prevent catastrophic failure. Professional mechanics are not foolproof either, their work needs to be checked
2. Woody wax is good for zippers
3. Load your chumchucker gently, or you risk shearing the drive pin
4. We are blessed with multiple inlets within range of our NE canyons, don't be afraid to switch ports on the way in for a shorter/better ride.
5. Jumbos at Crab Alley in OC are now $80 a dozen![]()
6. Broccoli rabe doesn't belong in a breakfast sandwich
7. Beanbags are the absolute best way to ride in rough conditions
8. Braces are friggen expensive
9. Check the amperage draw before putting to many loads on a DC circuit
10. You cannot expect assistance from other vessels, even when they are requested to do so by the Coast Guard
11. Drag settings on Internationals tend to tighten and must be checked every trip
