    Weekend NJ Mudhole Report

We had heard some good reports from Friday (and my weekend canyon plans fell through), so I quickly gathered a crew of Capt Daley, my son and daughter's boyfriend and headed out Saturday. We had just set up in the slough, when I saw my buddy buzz by us on his way to the dip. He was about 3 miles offshore of us when he spotted the bluefin on top and graciously called us in. We quickly ran out there and immediately hooked up.

Ended up with 6 fish, biggest was 55". Cedar plugs in the wash accounted for all bites. 2 rookies caught their first tuna.

Tried again on sunday with crew of Capt "spongebob" Mata, Finesse and Daley. Worked the same area and beyond, no bites. Seemed to be much less bait than on saturday. Heard of a few fish caught, but not for us. A beautiful day flattened out for a smooth 1 hour ride home.

Lots of tiny dolphin on the pots

Cedar plugs rock the tooners! Always have and always will. Nicely done DD. About how much did these bluefins weigh?

The 55" that we killed went 97 on the scale (club tournament first place)

the rest ran the gamut from estimated 30 lbs to about 75

Very nice fish that 55" one. Did he eat the cedar plug? If yes, how was the plug rigged (hook and leader size)?
    Thanks,

ALL bites were on the cedars. we had feathers and a few jet bars out with no bites (although at one point I watched 2 flyby's on the bars)

150-200 pound mono and needle eye hooks. Not sure what size, maybe 7/0. we did miss a few hits on the plugs, maybe the hooks should have been bigger

The big fish ate a 3 cedar chain on a 20 pound class rod I had out for my son. Of course, he didn't want to wind anymore at that point
