    We hooked a monster!!!

Fished the tourney last week and hooked several nice fish but saturday mornings hookup was awesome. Monday we had one billfish bite, that didn't come tight. Tuesday around 1230 pinky pulled out the clip and the second mate was on him, he hooked the fish and water went everywhere as the 400lb blue jumped over the long line and pulled it out of the clip, I cut the line on the one he jumped over and she went down not long after that the line popped. Wednesday 1245 pinky pulls out of the clip a quick feed back and nothing came tight started reeling pinky in half way to the boat as she is smacked again a 500lb blue then piles on the short right and is hooked just for a few seconds and gone we pull another 30 seconds and the long right comes tight with a 200lb male we fight him for 15 minutes and the hook pulls. Saturday morning 0900 the baits behind the razorback were looking good, Bobby Brown was on the short right with 20' smoke trail behind him. I look around and Bobby is missing, the line is coming off at record pace I pick up the rig and put the angler in the chair in 2 minutes I see the knot at the end of a 130 with a 35lb drag, we get the dredges in and back over the 2 flats and finally start getting some back, I look at the angler and he is just shaking all over the harness was digging in his back and he was nervous. We fight her for 20 minutes and the hook pulls free. The leader was not chaffed at all I think she got hung in the bill when she hade her first swipe. The anglers back is bruised greatly from were the harness was digging. We have hooked 5 blues in the last two tourneys and I haven't touched a leader yet.

WOW! I cannot even begin to imagine that kind of fishing. It will happen for you. Weighed one last year and a good amount of hookups this year. Your time will come. Nice work though and thanks for sharing.

It would be amazing to see the line ripping off the reel like that. Too bad the hook pulled, could have been a nice battle. You'll get her next time.

Two words....Hays Hooks....Capt. Roddy is a forum sponsor ta-boot....They are Jobu style in s.s.....We stuck just about every fish on Hays hooks this season.....single hook rig set back to were the hook's point just touches skirts end...Every hook was stuck deep in the Marlin's jaw...What sold me was how hard it was to get the damn hooks out for a release.

A pulled hook on a fish like that during a tournament has to give you that sinking feeling in your gut.

Were you guys sitting there while the reel was on the knot? You said when you got the dredges in you backed over the flats.

    Sounds exciting!
