WB 5/26

Headed offshore today to find the trolling bite pretty slow so about mid morning pulled in the trolling gear for some bottom action. The first four jigs to hit the bottom got smoked by four big reds. Bite quit as soon as it started so we went back to trolling and caught nothing but cudas. Jigged a few ajs along the way but at 5 PM decided it was time to head it. On the way in marked a little scratch and we dropped the hook on it. For the next couple hours all hell broke loose. Nonstop grouper bite ensued. We caught 17 grouper in an hour as well as a mahi and a king mackeral on topwater. We caught 8 scamps over 25 inches and plenty of reds. We had tons of action on top which is more exciting than anything. We finally hit the dock at 10:15pm after a beautiful day on the water. Life doesn't get any better. Cheers!

If that pic of one guy holding up a mahi and the other holding up a grouper doesn't show what a unique fishery you guys have down there then I don't know what could. Very cool pic and report!

Another great reoprt Arlin. Love the Trumpet fish. I have only caught them on jigs, not on bait...kinda cool. Love the Scamps, how deep did you find them? Gotta love the Wrightsville Beach Area for bottom fishing...

Yeah that last stop really showed the diversity of NC and live bottom fishing.Hearing Arlen on the bow hollerin and seeing that Mahi putting on an areial demonstration that would make the Thunderbirds jealous and at the same time Scott hookin up on a good Red on the jig with pure excitement is hard to beat.I think seeing two buddies hooking up on their first AJs on the jig and being really excited about the power and fighting ability of those awesome critters made my day as well, so did the big Scamps.

That is as good as it can get! You must have slept well monday night.
That trumpet will bring back some good memories to my boys. They used to sit on a windsurfer just behind the breakers in front of our house in Sénégal and catch them all day as soon as they were big enough to swim!
We haven't seen one off of MHC yet.

Thanks guys! Lee, the scamps came in 120ft.

The topwater king and mahi came while we were anchored up. Arlen was up at the bow getting bites on every 5 or 6 casts and the rest of us were at the back bailing grouper. It was definitely a trip for the record books and a ton of fun. It doesn't get any better than that. Cheers!
