Just saw this thread, it seems as all the bases are covered. I fish the wwwb's basically for the Lbfts. yes they are way back, yes it is a pita to turn the boat with tight, I can do it but the strong words from the cockpit make me make long gradual turns. It does work, yes they do get cut off.
when fishing in general, we do not go the extra distance, just a regular spread, all 16 rods, but the Mulitples are Awesome.
    Just my 10 cents worth.

If you're alone out there, then do what you want, but then again, you probably wont need the WWWWWTFB .
Oh yes, I will complain sir. It is going to happen, no doubt about that...but some of the maneuvers people make are just beyond stupid. Everyone knows (ok, that may be debatable) that in late June and a good part of July we are pulling WWWB's to catch big bluefin...no secret there. If you can't fish in a fleet like that then move on somewhere else where you won't cut someone off. And I can assure you, you can troll by yourself all you want, you WILL NOT catch slob bluefin on these lumps without getting that bait down deep. You can choose to do it with WWWB's or with a planer...but you've got to get it deep.

WOW - some pretty intersting stuff on this thread. I can't spend the time to cut and paste a bunch of quotes but I will through in my 2 cents.

Marty - It is not IGFA legal to troll spreader bars. So unless their is a special exception (i.e. OC TUNA TOURNAMNENT) you cannot use them with a hook in tournaments that follow IGFA RULESs and most tournament do follow IGFA rules.

Anthony is right on - WWWWB is a PITA to troll but guess what it works and I would say EVERY SINGLE WINNING TUNAFISH IN THE OC TUNA TOURNAMENT OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS WAS CAUGHT ON THE WAY BACK.

As far a meat taking the money - Well, I guess you are correct on the east coast. But I would bet a good share of the pie in tournaments in Hawaii, Azores, Brazil, Bermuda, Madiera, Cape Verde, Murutius, The Bahamas etc were talking on good ole Black Bart, Joe Yee, Mold Craft, Pakula yadda yadda yadda.

I guess the saying "When in Rome" really applies. Heres what works in OC, Maryland for larger Bluefin. WWWWWWWB horse ballyhoo either naked or with b/w. Planers but the baits are still a couple hundred feet behind the planer.

some of the best capt's in the world on boats like the Wound Up, Cabana, Size Matters, Press Time, Billfisher, Cyntinory, Uncle T etc troll from NJ to Mexico but when they come to good ole OC to fish the Tuna Tournament they are found fishing wwwwb. I wonder why?. I bet if Brian harrington or Shane were to come up hear and fish this tournament they would also have two baits wwwwwb and two baits deep.

One last tidbit - I have some great video footage of fishing with Capt Arch on the Pelican out of hatteras in the 90's. We caught 9 giants the first day and 14 giants the second day. We caught all but two on fatbacks drifted not 20 feet from behind the boat. We could actually hit them on the head as they came from under the boat just like in your video. The other two fish we caught. Well - The first fish was caught trolling one single rod with a naked horse trolled WWWWWWB. that is how we found the fish on the first day. The second fish was the first fisht caught on the second day trolling a naked horse WWWWWB. That is how we found the fish on the second day.

whether they work or they don't, they are a good thing to have the pita on the boat reel in.

You can also put a weed catcher on the WWB so that the P.I.T.A. has something consistently to do...

Not up to anything Marty...trust me.

I don't need to make this thread anymore ridiculous so I'll leave it at that.

But I do think I'll go fish some cedar plugs and Green machines and see if those fish are as dumb as I think they are

Good luck out there...I wish we had some big Bluefins to go after. They steamed right by us this year (except for the odd Giant or two which were hooked/caught at the Canyon).
