I LOVE SPREADER BARS AND FU FU DURING TOURNAMENTS........I LOVE THEM ON EVERYONE ELSE'S BOATS!
    [/QUOTE]

Who said anything about tournys? I know plenty of boats here in NC that pull spreader bars, and there are days when they are the only thing to get a TUNA bite, and there are days when anything will get a tuna bite, there are also days when tuna won't hit anything(usually after they have been around for a little while and more boats have been fishing for them, I am mainly referring to yellowfins). Sometimes you just have to trick them, such as using fluro, tieing your own seawitchs(they have already seen every islander out there)or putting the thing a little farther back than normal, I think this is were the wwwwwwfb came from, with people hearing word of mouth and not really knowing what to do, just putting them wwwwwwwfb. I do not know anybody who pulls spreaders in tournys, but if you want to try I won't stop you. Also the whole plastic/lure thing should only be used in NC when you are blue marlin fishing and they are few a far between.

    BOX,

You didn't ruffle my feathers...I always enjoy all your posts and usually get a new tidbit of info I can use down the road. As you say, "it's only my way, not the only way." I know you know how I fish...Carolina style....but that doesn't stop me from pulling WWWB's when Bluefin fishing in the summer off the good ole Eastern Shore. Flat out, it works...and it will outfish (for big bluefins) fishing up close on these lumps in June and July, end of story. And I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. It ain't fun....takes forever to wind that chit in...get a tangle and you're screwed....getting cut off sucks. I can promise I wouldn't go through all that if I didn't have to to catch big bluefins. Fishing bars and birds way back is a different story (which I don't get)...I very rarely pull a bird and when I fish bars they are in the middle of my ballyhoo spread which means pretty close. Again, just my way...not the only way.

I fish Carolina style with dead bait, mostly skirted with seawitches and such and fish UP CLOSE for yellowfins and billfish. Big bluefin here are a different breed and if you want to catch big ones you better have a couple of waybacks and and planer bait down. I have gotten most of my bites this year(and big fish) on the planer bait. I know what all that "crap" in the spread can do, especially the monster leaders, nose springs and all that mess....heck, I don't usually even put a spreader bar in the water when bluefinning unless I feel like there may be a yf or two there. And I can tell you, there are more than a couple of world class boats in OI and Hatteras that pull spreaderbars for yf....I know, it's the end of the world as we know it.
    Anthony, RIGHT ON.

I can tell you this much, ive dont a lot of bluefin fishing this year, alot. Not saying im the best or im better than any one else.

But i have had a great year, yes the fish were thick and we had a great bite, and yes most weekend guyz could go out and catch a couple with there bars and poppers and daisy chains.

But im talking about good days, ive had a couple this year where i got double digit numbers for the day on bluefins, yes most were releases, and 1 or maybe 2 were killed. But ive also got a couple over 100 this year.

My bluefin spread is simple, Horses or selecs on everything, i run 4 to 6 islanders way way way back.

How far is way Back?? My long riggers are 5 to 8 hundred, shorts are usually 3 to 4 hundred, and flats are 1 to 150(feet)

Out of all the bluefins i have caught this year, i had 1 hit about 30 feet form the transom as i was reeling in the bait, and another hit a RASTA BAR about 30 foot off the transom.

Why should it be wrong to pull my rods that far back? This isnt cockyness, No siree, this is just plain simple facts.

I also wonder why almost all of the charter guyz i know up here pull WWWB?

    Again, Just my opinion.

If you did not claim it not to work then the post I made was not for you

Some days you raise a fish on the swim platform. Some days you raise a fish in the middle of the spread.

Some days you do not raise a fish in the fish market

And some days try anything wwwwwwwwwwfnback. Even if it hurts to see it

by the way great vid. I also like the vid when you are hand feeding the tuna right off the stern. If ya have time could you post that link. Have a good one marty !

Holy freaking crap........that is crazy far back.

I am glad I don't have to do that to catch fish.

Whatever blows your dress up I guess.

With that much line out, there is no way possible to know if you get a short bite or if there is a problem with a bait IMO.

Whatever works for you dude, there is no right or wrong way IMO.

Im just sayn the way i do it, and it works for me, and yes im only 19, and learn every single day

I wish i could have been in the sport when Carolnia had its insane GBFT action, sadly i wasnt or i probably would have known alot more about the bluefins.

But like i said, i have found the way it works for me. Sorry for disrupting the thread.......

And to be honest, this is why i dont ever give any type of advice on here or dont usually put my 2 cents in. Simply becuase im young and still learning..................
