With an awesome forecast we got our gear together and left the slip at 0500. By 0515 we had cleared the dredge barge dilligently clearing the channel under the Beaufort Bridge...Just a little pucker...
We cleared the inlet and for the first time this year, were able to run at full cruise - not a drop of spray the whole way out - kinda nice for a change.
there was a nice eddy on the ssts so we went that way.
as we neared the area where I wanted to put lines in, the only cloud in the sky was overhead - kinda ominous cuz it was dark... the temp had dropped from 82 to 80 - but I figured I'd find warmer water - never did - but it didn't matter.
Lines in at 0715 and we started to see some scattered grass and occasional flyers. At 0830 the flatline disappears and the long rigger soon follows - we had a fine mess - 2 sails both successfully released and a mighty fine tangle.
We worked the area for a bit and picked up a hoo on the planer. By that time we had found some more consolidated weeds and some rips - start working along and pick up another hoo before the little green eating machines tore us apart. Throughout the day we caught 20 of the little buggers - kept 4 - Hopefully they will come back to visit in May and bring their big brothers and sisters.
picked up another hoo as well.
Made the run back in again at full cruise with no spray - what a beautiful day on the water.
It doesn't get any better.
