With an unfamiliar loaner boat in hand and an ass whooping coming for sure, Wahoonbox & Crew decided to run inside to Hatteras this morning, head straight to the Rockpile for the Saildogs that have been thick in the area and go for the daily calcuttas (including brown bag)-- then ride the current and seas up to Oregon Inlet. Seas were down right sporty heading out and got worse as they headed to deeper water.
Mid morning the dredge rod goes off and the dredge is seen crossing the right rigger---- never saw what it was.
It was hold on for dear life and the 70 yr old capt. was keeping the boat in the game as best he could in the 8 -10 seas.
Mid day it happens---a suicide White piles in on---- guess what, guess where Whitey?.
Fish is on and peeling drag off the dink rod at a good clip. Backing down on it was out of the question but when the boat slowed, waves broke into the pit to the point that the capt. didn't feel safe and gave her another 100--- between the string being out 300 yds getting pounded by waves and the boat speeding up, the 30 lb line gave way.
It is the only hook up they know of today.
Off to Cape May in the Morning.
