Those who know me know that I am the last guy in the world to kiss ass for any reason whatsoever and (not that anyone has implied that) I wasn't doing that in the article. I mentioned Box in a very complimentary manner for one reason and one reason only...he deserved it. And honestly, I could not think of another guy like him on any of the many other sites that I visit (and may no longer be welcome at because of mentioning "our house" and no others). He really is a rare case of a guy who knows what he's talking about and even more than that, who shares his knowledge with others.

There are a few other top guys around, including some here, who aren't into sharing what they know and on the one hand, that's understandable - especially if he's a charter guy who wants to keep his edge over the competition, but that doesn't do any good for the average guy who visits the sites in an attempt to learn and grow.

Box is high profile here and although we don't have any, acts part of the time kind of like a moderator, but unlike the mods on some sites, he knows what he's talking about, isn't (all that) jealous of other knowledgeable fishermen willing to pass on knowledge, and he supports those who support this site. Some of those other mods are cocky, arrogant, and apparently consider the word "moderator" to mean "expert" and they spend lot of time fighting and trying to undermine good inputers in an attempt to protect their self imposed "expert" status. You all probably know about some of these guys.

'COURSE, I DON'T LIKE ALL THOSE CAPS THE BOXTER USES, BUT THEY ARE HIS TRADEMARK AND YES, THE GUY TALKS THE TALK - BUT HE WALKS THE WALK, SO HE'S ENTITLED TO YAK AWAY ALL HE WANTS.

We might appear to lock horns once in a while, but that is going to happen when a guy like me comes in with an international background on the same fish that Box has such a deep regional knowledge of. That's all good and a lot of good stuff can be passed along, as long as we keep things friendly and others recognize that we are both trying to help out the membership.

I'm glad that I had an opportunity to spread the word about our BoxMan and I'm glad it happened in a BGJ issue about the legends of the game...and I am humbled but proud to have been included in that group and I was happy to drag The Box along with me for some well deserved national and international attention.

That is one amazing issue. I have never read a magazine issue that was so full of the absolute heart and soul of big game fishing. There's no bullshit in it and one thing that amazed me, but shouldn't have I guess, was how many hugely important things the top guys agreed on, like how to find fish and how important that is before you start fishing, priceless input on things like trolling speeds, lure colors and more. No one should miss out on those things and even if you don't subscribe to The Journal, you should pick up this copy off a newstand (more likely a local tackle dealer) or contact The Journal and get it. Believe me, you won't regret it!

Finally, thanks to all of you who make this such a great "house". If it weren't for you guys and the good talk that goes on here, I wouldn't have had a site that I could have in all good conscience mentioned in my article, to say nothing of having someone like The Box to hold up as an example of a great Internet teacher.

    See Ya!

    As BOX would say...

I TIP MY RIGGERS TO YA BIG DOG! Thank you Fred. The Box deserves the recognition and what you say is very true. He gives very unselfishly to the internet fishing world. Quite frankly, the reason I started frequenting the net. Thanks again Fred and Thank you Box.
