    Yo A,

Nice piece of information, seems like most pelagics act very similar, local shark researchers here in So.Cal tagged and tracked Makos here and found very similar results. Daytime they cruise close to the surface and at night they make deep dives. The conventional wisdom is they dive to feed on night squid and then come back to the surface, Short spikes down and long time spent cruising near or on the surface both daytime and nightime.
Sounds like Mr. Darksuit got a hold of that Wahoo that expired

Thanks for this report--very interesting, and will change the way I have been attempting to target wahoo. I wonder, is the info specific enough to tell when the 'hoo come to the surface in the daytime?

    Some more info....

One of the few studies done on the Wahoo....THE BIOLOGY OF WAHOO IN THE WESTERN CENTRAL ATLANTIC.

According to the study, these are the top meals for them Wahoo...

    North Carolina
    Scombridae 27.3% (Mackerels, Tunas, Bonitos)
    Stometeidae 24% (Butterfish)
Diodontidae 17.8% (Burrfishes and Porcupine fishes)
Clupeidae 12% (Herrings, Shads, Sardines, Menhadens)

    US South Atlantic States
    Cephalopoda 26.3% (Squid)
    Exocoetidae 16.3% (Flyingfishes)
    Scombridae 14.2% (Mackerels, Tunas, Bonitos)

Although the Wahoo is considered a Scombridae, there is no reported incidences of cannibalism.

Wahoo addicts can read the 17pg. study here...
