    Video Camera Mount Help

    Hello All,

Considering all the amazing action vids out there on this site, I want to contribute my share this year. I am having trouble tracking down a rod holder style mount, does anyone know who makes them or where to get them? I have checked all the catalogs and can not find one. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Fishthebite, For the bridge of the Predator boat, I went to Wallmart and bought a small tripod mount. I think it went to 18" in height. Stuck 1 leg in the rod holder and wire tied it off to the rod holder and then wire tied the other 2 around the rod holder. The tripod has a quick release mount so you can take the camera off and on easily. Coast of tripod was about $18.00. Works for me.

I work in a machine shop and made my own. All I did was buy a small $14.00 compact tripod and took the head off. I took a piece of 1" 6061 aluminum pipe and welded on a gimbal that I cut from a piece of 1" solid aluminum roundstock. Then made an adaptor plate for the head of the tripod and welded it to the other end. Now it will fit snug in any rod holder or you can pull it out and hold it by hand. If you would like for me to make you one, just give me a hollar at fishaholic@cox.net. Beats the hell out of those $200-$300 setups you will find anywhere else.

I have the Melton's camera mount. It is very nice because it has a ball joint that gives you full range of motion, and it locks when you let go of the handle. It's like having your camera in your hand, except no shakes and it smoothly lock in place when you want to hold still.

But they are proud of it, so you need to cough up some cash to get it. If you just want to hold a camera aimed at the cockpit, there are cheaper options.
