Life is short...fish hard...get bent!!!
Now that I've bought all this crap, where am I going to store it all??
Mojo ....
I can only imagine the opportunities you will have during this adventure …. I can’t begin to realize them all.
Seeing your above post you may need to adjust the 10K tag a bit !! As you probably already know U/W housings, depending how far you want to take it, will slap that budget sillyespecially if you still need the cameras to go inside!
For me In general housings can be as inexpensive as say $200 for a proprietary housing for point and shoot cameras like Canon, Olympus, Nikon etc. They can be rated from 30 to 100-130 feet ( you can even get soft "bag" type housings for less than 20-30 or so feet, they serve a purpose but not really for diving). But they can go to 5-6K for a DSLR housing. There are great housings for DSLR's in the $1200 to $2000 range. With the DSLR housings you will need ports for the lenses... depending on what you want to do (macro, wide angle etc ).
Don’t forget strobes (external) for your cameras either !! Again I’m sure you know this but the deeper you go the more color that gets lost. Strobes provide the artificial light to bring those colors out. Expensive but worth it when you see the results!! Onboard flashes typically are not strong enough and can cause backscatter in the photos.
More or less the same for Video...
Video housings, in varying degrees range from splash proofing the vid cam to going to depths greater than what a rec. diver can handle, can be had for less than $200 and go all the way to housings costing well over 10 K ....
still jealousand look forward to the documentation of this excursion !!!
I dont know if this helps in your search for u/w gear but here are a couple of pics to show the strobe thing ….
The Orange cup coral was taken on a night dive ….Without the strobes the picture would have been as dark as the lower right corner of the pic
The Green moray was a missed shot/exposure, you can see the blues filtering down, whereas the Gold Spotted moray was better exposed.
Hope this helps
Finesse,
Those are some great shots...hope I can do half as well. I've done a little underwater photog w/ a buddies camera..it was a Nikon rig....liked it but just want to explore my options..luckily I'm not leaving til someitme in 2010 so I have time to play w/ some product...
