    Venice 5/6/10 report

Bret, Jared, Sean, capt. Mike Ellis, and myself headed south out of south pass thursday unsure of what we would find. we closed the livewell intake in anticipation of running through oil but it never happened. we stopped at a rig 40 miles out to catch bait and saw tuna busting everywhere. after catching a variety - goggle eyes, speedos, and tinker mackeral - we deployed a couple and threw poppers and swimbaits to the busting fish to no avail.
we caught one on a live bait and but the fish were not very aggressive and Mike made the call to head further SSE and look for more cooperative fish.
we picked off another one there but it was slow so we moved again and got a couple more before we ran over to the east to a semi sub only 15 miles from where oil is supposedly gushing from the DWH location.
we were marking lots of fish like we had been all day but these wanted to eat and it was on. Mike said screw the outriggers and fished straight off the rod tip because they were eating right off the transom. at 3:00 we had 13 in the box between 35-60.
Mike told me to throw out the 25 or so baits in the livewell we were calling it day. as he started to accelerate a school of tuna started demolishing the baits in our wake that had been using the boat as cover. It was a hell of a feeding frenzy right behind the boat and is one of the coolest things I have ever witnesed.
as I have reported here before the media is blowing this oil spill way out of proportion. today before Mike and I left the camp he had two more cancellations one of them in august!
The fishing is on fire and I have NEVER seen so much life in such a large area. we have cobalt blue water 20 miles from the pass and weed lines are starting to form. we saw a sunfish, a pod of whales, porposes, tons of bait, and of course tons of tuna fish.

I really enjoyed meeting and fishing with you Texas boys and hope we can do it again soon.

    Scott

I am moving to venice tomorrow....

That's some pretty water and stellar dock shot!

O'h and that slick calm bath tub your fishing in....

AWSOME: I can hear that tunas tail slapping the water, just before he is swallowed into the upper atmosphere...
