Unhappy UV and your eyes, a Health tip

Just had an eye exam last night.
The bad news is I have cartaracts.
The good news is they can fix it by replacing the lenses in my eyes. Hopefully by the end of the month.
I was told cataracts are the result of UV light on the lens of your eye. It appears this lens is the UV protector for your eyes. To all fisherman and outdoors folks reading this Make sure your sunglasses have UV protection.
I can't believe how quick my sight deteriorated.
In about a month I went from seeing fine to navigating in a medium to heavy fog without radar. And it's getting worse. Ya know how it is.
You see something out there but it doesnt come into focus till your close.
    Just a heads up folks.
Don't forget to wear those UV sunglasses when your out there.

    Joe

Thanks for the warning...can you give us an estimate of approximately how many years you went without UV sunglasses while on the water? I never started wearing them until I was about 25...I'm thirty now and just wondering what exposure levels like that may have done.

my doc told me it's absolute must wear, for anyone on the water and especially if you wear glasses or contacts as I do. He over emphasized the contact wearers are at great risk, therefore, I live in my Costa's.

Exposure to sunlight is also cited as a cause of macular degeneration which leads to blindness.

    From the Mayo Clinic

Exposure to sunlight: Those with lifelong outdoor careers or hobbies as well as those living near the equator and at high altitudes are at greater risk.

    Joe,
Both of my parents have recently had their cataracts removed. Both are extremely pleased with the results - My father has worn glasses as long as I can remember, now doesn't need them anymore.

Good advice on UV glasses outdoors

Without corrective lenses, things are never twice the same anyway.
And all it really needed was the proper point of view. JT

    Box,
What style Kaenons did you get? They got some funky frames on some of them.
