    Tuna Wahoo Stripers!

I striper fished with Michael Gasin (Happy of NJFishing.com) and Michael Justin. Much tougher conditions today, more boats, less active fish. We managed to boat 41" and 37" long stripers, we left a couple still swimming after they got a "mouth full of metal" (bunker spoons). We found no love while live lining bunker. This really is a great fishery!

Box- That's one style that ice cream man posted, they are all fairly similar, and I can't believe fish want to eat them! We can get more small bass anchored up and clamming, but we get our biggest bass with spoons. Yesterday one of my customers was reeling in a spoon very slowly, just to clear the lines while another fish was being brought in. I happened to look down and saw his spoon just slightly wobbling as he reeled it it in and behind and just below it was an absolute submarine of a bass, just checking out the spoon. I was speechless at the size of the fish free swimming right next to the boat. We've got an awesome fishery up here, anytime you want to check it out, give me a shout.

Trouble with Bunker Spoons is that they require a bit of a specific rod setup.

Ideal would be an 8' glass or composite medium-ish rod with a nice bendy tip but a loooot of backbone in the middle section.

When you've got them set up right, though, the bass can't resist 'em.

    Say What Box???

The magical "bunker spoon" rarely makes it south of the Delaware Bay. I have never used one myself, since I am from "Mer-a-lin" and fish the Chesapeake and all...but I must say that I am shocked that the BOX has never heard or seen one. This could be the beginning of a rockfish revolution on the Carolina coast.

I am fairly certain the old timers made them out of pieces of car fenders and bumpers and stuff during the deppression...at least that is how I recall they were invented.

Anyway...pretty cool to think they eat different things in different places...

And don't forget to tip that big meathook with your choice of bait. From hogys', to live eels, to a nice live bunker himself will just drive the rockfish bizerk! That one's an old-school secret Capt. Rich!

Sushi- Thats very interesting, because no one up here does that???!!! I would think that hanging some meat off of the back hook would dampen the lure action, but I will give it a try. Thanks.--Rich
