This summer has been the hardest one in recent memory in the Chapman household.... after the passing of my 84 year old grandmother in May I didn't think it could get worse..but oh boy was I wrong...
Last friday my dog....wait...wait....dog doesnt really say what she was to me more like beloved family member, best friend. home protector. companion. I could go on for ever...... any way. Don't ever take your pets for granted because you never know when the last time you'll pet them will be....Here is a poem that just about sums it up!!!!
Gone form my Sight by Henry Van Dike
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...
I don't know about other parts of the country but around this old boys neighborhood we are all really CRAZY ABOUT OUR DOGS.....AND I KNOW I WOULD HAVE DONE AND DID DO (emerengcy surgery, ultasound, x-ray blood work everything) ANYTHING TO SAVE OUR GIRL...just tonight we are out walking and neighbor says "hey wheres that Scarlott Ann?" I almost lost it right then and there...anyway just wanted to share a little. I feel better now......
thanks
