Tsunami 150 lb heavy swivels Vs SPRO 150 lb

Picked up some tsunami heavy swivels for the planer set up this week. 150 lb. Side by side to the SPRO they look and function the same. I can see the tolerance between the 2 barrels is not as tight as the SPRO's and with a lil more play in them.
They are however cheaper $5.99 for 25. The size comparison is the same as well.
It will be interesting to see how they stand up to the drag of the planer. They may break apart on the first throw of the drag lever . Will report back with findings.

Don't waste your time using them on the planer. Look closely at the eyes on the Tsunami's, some are not centered. The eye is very thin on one side or the other, I've had several break or pull apart slightly on leaders. The 150lb. Spro is much better quality, I upgraded my bridle to 240lb. Spros after seeing a couple 150's break after pulling the planer for a while, that is alot of pressure on that little swivel. The 240 lb. easily passes through the roller tip with no hang ups.

I saw those in a bait shop up here, I was a bit skeptical with the price. They seemed to be a bit off, and I saw on the package they were made in china, so I passed on them. With the heavy gear we pull, even the quality stuff breaks. I don't need the chinese crap to increase my planer release percentage.

I'd stick with the spros on the planer and marlin rigs, use the Tsunamis for sharkin and stuff like that.

GD Bryan, what is this fetish of yours about watching $25 planers sink to the ocean floor? ---- Use the good stuff

I guess it's all about experimenting and tuning the setup the way you want it to work. I had been checking the front 150 Spro occasionally when I noticed the swivel getting sloppy after alot of use. The only 2 Spros that I have seen break were on the front of the bridle and took massive strikes when they broke. I switched to the 240 hoping to reduce the fatigue on the swivel. I made my bridle out of 170lb. Seven Strand cable to reduce chaffing from the planer clips. Been using the same bridle since last fall without nary problem, swivels still nice a smooth, no slop. I might use the Tsunamis on lighter stuff but not on the planer, I want the ole Hoo to realize he has screwed up!! Not swimmin off with hardware.

Trust me all my stuff is rigged with the SPRO's. I have never had any type of SPRO stuff fail on me. 80,50,35, 130 power swivels. Will give these a shot to see what happens. $25?? you need to go to priceinsanity.net. #16 $19.00 get a couple and the shipping is cheaper than $25 even after you add sales tax.

I also just found out that Gamakatsu owns/makes SPRO. Doesn't surprise me. Gamakatsu is the heat on the bass hooks and many others.

I too change out everything...termial gear, re sharpen hooks, line etc after every trip out.

THanks for the feedback about the swivels. I figured at $5.99 they will be a good lesson to hang on too.
