Trophy Wrightsville Bch 4/18
cleared the inlet around 0600 and made good time towards the 140. couple faster boats on the scene already getting a few bites here and there. set our mess out, everything looking good. first trip of the year takes an hour or so for all of us to work the kinks out. couple short bites with nothing to show for it.....send the planer rod down for a while. plow up a nice wahoo around 1000. get bit off on mono/fluoro a couple times on the shorts and longs(more on this later). put more wire out. pick up a gaffer here and there and miss a small white or sail off the left bridge teaser. nail another good wahoo, short rigger bite. little while later, get bit on the left short. as im clearing the planer, it gets bit. then the long rigger goes down. triple banger wahoosnbox. get the mess back out and stumble across a nest of gaffers and put about a half dozen in the box by noon.
by then we have a nice box of meat so Capt decides to put some plugs out and go lookin'. fish out in the deep to 200 fathoms or so with no bites. pretty conditons, just no love. crank em up about 1400 or so and head towards the hill with a quick stop in the 40 mile range. karl manages a 24" red grouper on the jig despite the knot and half of tide.
on to the hill....got the boat washed and almost dryed in banks channel thanks to the capt bright idea, tied her up and headed to the house.
cut fish on sunday morning and found two 7691 8/0's with ballyhoos still attached to a couple inches of mono and one of my custom blue/crystal fade witches in the gut of the largest wahoo. that ******* wahoo thought he had nine lives.....should have known better than to mess around with the TROPHY boat!
now im off to eat fresh sushi with the crew......
