Went to do a little tune up blue marlin fishing before the upcoming tournaments. Was a somewhat crappy ride out to say the least left the inlet at 5:45 at 20 kts and ended up 17kts by the time we got to the 200 line. Lots of squalls and the good water was shoved into 20 fathoms 77.8 deg. we stopped at 30 fa and the water was down to 75.7 and set out our plug spread headed to the SE. Made it out to the 100 and the water dove off to 73.4 and turned nasty green. We pushed our way back into the 30 to 50 fathom range and 75-76 water. We beat 2 real good bait balls over a 2 number area for 3.5 hours and caught 12 gaffers and probably pulled off another 8-10. Not a bad day for lure fishing with the big poles never saw a bill fish but sure was expecting to get a shot at one from all the bait we had. Last couple of gaffers i cleaned were slam packed full of 6-8 inch squid i guess that was what we were marking makes you wonder. But another good trip and we caught our 12 fish boat limit for our 3 rd trip and were home early. Hope the weather breaks for the weekend.
