Travel with rods? Little trick to keep them neat!
One of the easiest ways to damage rods is in transport. (off and on the boat or in and out of the vehicle) Guides get chipped and broke, rods and reels scratched up and line gets frayed if the rods are rigged. Most of my damage came this way. I harly ever damage them once I'm fishing. Here is a little trick I learned from a salty old guy from the pier.
Stack all the rods (5 or 6 to a stack) back to back. Take line from heaviest outfit in the stack and grab about 1/2 way down rod. (line has to be either attached to reel with swivel for trolling or if it's rigged to fish bottom- attach hook from leader to foot of guide, run weight under reel and tighten until slack is gone)
Next, just take line and wrap around stack until line gets tight and tuck behind a guide. Now you will never need another strap to keep your rods together. I used to use the velcro straps, but this way is easier and I'll never have to worry about straps blowing away. If you need pictures I'll be happy to post some later after the wife wakes up and takes off for work. Camera is hiding on her side of the room. Never wake up a sleeping wife!
I usually take them in a pvc inside a carboard pipe. Some bubble wrap around the guides and am good to go. I seen once how the handle the baggage in Atlanta. I had fragile written all over it but that didn't help much. I was pissed

I do this with each single rod a lot. keeps the tips of other rods from getting tangled up in the lilne of other rods. Also will help from the lure comming off the eye frame (never ever put the hook in the ceramic of a guide) or the hook keeper of the rod...
Never care your rods standing up in the back of your truck or in the skiff console rod holders. BUGS!!!!!! got little sharp wings and bodies that will cut your lines and ruin your rods.
