I make all leaders needed 2 days before my trip. I store them in a lure bags. 3 leaders per pocket. This is mainly for dink and early summer fishing after YFT season is gone. These type of leaders are clipped to coastlocs already on the rods. I switch these out after every trip or 2.

Wind on YFT tuna leaders are built and kept on the rods a few days before the trip. I have 2 spare wind ons per rod ready to go when needed that are stored in lure bags. Only thing needed to do is slide the witch over them and crimp the running line. I keep a few witches on a piece of monel that hangs unobstructed under my console.

Wire rigs are all made the day before and stored 3 per pocket in lure bags then baited up the night before and the next morning unless it is going to be rough on the way out. All spares are kept in a plastic coffee can. These do not have the top haywire so I can slide whatever witch/bait over the wire and finish off with a twist when needed. These are clipped to coastlocs already on the rods as well.

I found that I wasted to much riggin time by building stuff weeks in advance. So I build and store as needed now.

Let me ask this. I have always used 90-300 lb flouro leaders and have not had any problems because the leader material is wound and shipped in larger coils. Here is the problem This year I bought some lighter 80lb flouro which is packaged on a small spool. The first 4 50ft windons were fine and I could recoil them in larger coils. The last two from the 100yd spool were like a birds nest as they came off the spool becase of the smaller Diameter of the spool. After making the windons I could not get them to coil in larger coils!! Is there any way to straighten these?? Anyone else have the same problem with the lighter flouro material? Thanks Mark

Take the leader off that little spool and stretch it. Then coil it in big coils.

I am a little confused by this thread. I started using mostly 30ft floro wind ons last year. 100 to 130lb for general YFT trolling. When done, I have been simply winding everything up. Seems to be neat and clean with no storage issues. However it is sounding like the fact that 80% of the leader is now stored on the reel itself, that this might create some memory issue with the leaders?? I never noticed any problems with this last seaeson. Am I missing something?
