Its not very often that 2 good friends as well as guides have the day off in the height of the fishing season to fish together but Seth and I jump at the chance every day off we have. Its so nice to have someone to do homework (as I call it ) with and Seth is one of the only guides that I will do it with.
My day started off crazy as normal with me having to drop off flyers to Tex's Tackle for the Capt. Eddy Haneman Sailfish Tournament that's this weekend and then a cup of coffee and to Seth's house @ 5:45 so we'll be at the boat ramp on time and the first spot an hour after first light.
Polling down the first bank we see what we are looking for, Stingrays and Flounder ='s Red Drum and soon we find the first one. I'm on the rod, the water erupts and this one comes to the boat, has her picture taken and goes back to be caught another day.



Then Seth is on the bow and I'm on the pole as we ease back to the school in a foot of water. The Drum seem tense so we ease to the inside and Seth casts the Top dog to the other side of the school and starts to "walk the dog" back to the boat when a drum explodes on it first knocking it out of the water and then the next time pulling it under...Seth never stops working the lour and holds the rod tip high and the dog pops to the surface, is popped twice and the big Drum nails it and its on with line ripping through the water and running to the right and then back to the left. Soon the guest of honor is in the boat with her picture taken and released to play another day...life is good. We see what time it is and 30 minutes into the day we both have fish. After a short talk we decided we should go looking some ware else. By now the wind is blowing 15 knots and that limits us as to where to look. After looking at the map we head to the north pull in on a windward bank and start the push down the bank. Wind is now gusting to 20 and Seth puts out the drift sock in a foot of water so both of us can fish at the same time and slow our drift so we can work all the area with our top water plugs. Shortly I hook the big fish of the day and Seth fires one on top of mine and hooks up on another one...double, doesn't get better than that. I'm lucky and manage to keep main from the crab pots and get him to the boat quickly but Seth's takes him around a PVC marker. Seth loosens the drag, I grab the pole and work the boat so he can get it off. All is well, fishing line is off and suddenly the fish spits the hook.
We put down the anchor and start to fan cast the area...the video tells the rest...2 crazy guides and a day we all dream of.
