Thumbs up Took the new boat on it's first poon trip...

and we were 5 for 6 I feared for the worse after talking to a couple of other guides about the bait situation. I made sure I took plenty of dead bait incase I couldn't find it.

I hit the first spot wih a blank, second spot blank. I Pinned my hopes on la sopa and caught one threadfin in ten tosses. Finally having made up my mind to give the dead bait a try for fear of missing my window on the tide I headed back to the pass. When I was running down the channel in a big flat I spotted a big bunch of threadfins just off the channel in about three feet of water. One toss later we were plugged with about two hundred perfect size greenies.

First spot I wanted to try was a natural tarpon funnel right at the pass. The pass has silted in except for the far right hand side which is 12 feet deep and abot thirty feet wide. On a strong incoming tide they are usually concentrated there and pretty big. That day they were not in position yet or something but no bites.

Second spot was a small lagoon in a neighborhood called vista mar. Saw a few rolling and started a drift. Had my first tarpon hooked on the new boat on in less than a minute. Wasn't but 15lbs but it's a start. Had a couple more miss baits and headed somewhere else.

Third spot was quatro calles. It's a 47' hole they dredged out in the 50's for the foundation of the airport runways. They could not have desighed a better tarpon hole. It is a frustrating place most of the time. You see thousands of big poons but seldom get a bite. Here I usually have better luck with the fly but this day was different. First drift we had two about 35 and 40lbs. Thats 3 for 3 !00% don't happen often in the tarpon thing. I had to suggest somewhere else.

Fourth spot, aka, first spot was on fire for the rest of the trip(15 minutes) and we were 2 for 3 on 40lbers with fish busting every bait I chummed.

Back at the dock they were 2 for 3 on 25lbers while I cleaned the boat and baited hooks

I don't have pics as my camera broke, but they took abunch and promised to email them to me so we could update the website. I'll post them on here when I get them.

Nice to be out on the water, I miss the stress

    Mike

Glad to hear that you are back on the poons capt. Mike. I think this is a start of good things to come for you. Good luck on the next trips, and get that camera fixed.
