I made a similar rig but use a BW Islander as the front lure, followed by a b/w squid skirt on the egg sinker.
I also have one of wahooking's lures, and love it as well. He certainly is the pioneer of this type of fishing and I wouldn't be doing it w/o his guidance.
Also, I think you're fine handlining in the leader. These are not 50'-100' leaders of light mono like on a sniper rod. This is 15'-20' of 400" lb mono and cable. Definitely no problem to handle boatside!
Nice job on your Wahoo. We were out there too, your take on the forecast was right on! Pretty sloppy all day long and you didnt miss much by heading to the hill early either....we had one 55lb Wahoo and a stinky, maybe one other bite and that was it...oh 4 for 8 on sea sick crew too!
