    Tld 25

I have a question for you guys. I am going to fish 5 tld 25s and two 300 torques on the flat lines this year. Last year i fished all 50 wides. These 50 wides get awful heavy after a bit. Will the tld hold up to power pro #80 and a 100 yd top shot of #80 mono. Also on the flat lines the torques i have #80 power pro and no top shot just a long leader on my sea witches or cedar plug. I fish in the gulf stream off of north carolina. Most of the fish i catch are all under #100. The added footage of line should be able to handle most.are i can chase with a center console. The specs for the tld is #20 of drag. I don't know the amount of #80 power pro it holds. Thanks in advance.

I used TLD25's on a charter boat that I used to work on spooled the same way and never once had a problem. (I think you will get the same reply from everyone.) Since all of our fishing was stand up, they made it much easier on the clients to handle instead of 30's or 50's. Never once had a problem with the drags, gears, or amount of line.....and these reels saw A LOT of fish. (They were used way before I got there and are still being used today.....more than 10 years of day after day gulf stream charter usage.) Granted there are better reels, but for the money the old workhorse TLD25 is haaaaard to beat. You should be able to get 400 yards of 80 lb. on there plus a long (75-100 yard) top shot. You could also go with 500 yards of braid and a smaller (25-50 yard) top shot----up to you. Be sure to put your braid on WET and under tension.

Might upgrade the factory handles to Tiburon T Handles, makes a world of differance. I've got 4 25's loaded with 400 yds. of 80lb. Power Pro and 100 yds. of Momoi 60lb. topshot. Went with 60lb. to get the "sag" out of longer lines that the 80lb. created.

I agree 100000% on the handles! Best improvement you can make to these reels! Probably the only complaint you'll hear from them is that the handles are tiny and uncomfortable.

Just be careful to not load up the drag, on the TLD's and use a harness.

Thanks for the reply. How do you put it on wet just put spool in water and hold with your thumb for tension? Are does it need to be tighter. With a glove on.

I like to take a cooler, or bucket, and fill it with water until it would be halfway of the spool laying in it. Lay the spool sideways, and it keeps enough tension to spool up perfectly. Been doing it that way for the past several years, and it works great.

I used Tlds for years and love the reels. Infact before I could afford my 30s and 50s I upgraded my TLDs by adding another belleville washer to increase the drag and put greased carbon fiber drag washers like the Tiagra 30s have. Then put a new larger handle since I added 6 more lbs of drag. To keep the frames from popping I installed the Gettsrapped brackets that go under the reel. This keeps the frames from twisting when you have a large fish in the harness. I still have the entire set of Six and use them when I have a crew that dosent fish much. Anyony can handle the 25s. Great reel for the money.
Here is apick with the oversize handle and getstrapped bracket.....Mark

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and buy tyrnos 30 single or 2 speeds for tuna fishing the 2 speeds would be better they have a superior drag and can handle the braid better also are much faster.

I have some Penn 245 LD reels that are very similar to the TLD25's.

I have 500 yards of 65lb Power Pro on them and then a top shot.

I think you could probably get about 600 yards of 80 lb braid on them IMO.
