TIP OF THE WEEK #10 SPREADER BAR/TEASER TRICK

TIP OF THE WEEK #10....SPREADER BAR / TEASER TRICK...

THIS WINTER AS ALWAYS THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF TALK ,TIPS, HOW TO QUESTIONS, & SUGGESTIONS...ONE THAT STICKS IN MY MIND IS HOOKLESS SPREADER BARS....?WHAT NO HOOK BUT A FLATLINE CLIP....YA A FEW COMPANYS & POEPLE HAVE DONE THIS WITH SUCCESS....SO THIS LEAD ME TO A NEW IDEA WICH LEAD ME TO ANOTHER & ANOTHER.....

IDEA NUMBER ONE WAS WHY NOT RUN A SMALL SPREADER BAR FROM THE TEASER REEL WICH WOULD INCREASE THE SIZE OF MY TEASER...WICH IVE SEEN A FEW OI CAPTS. DOING THIS PAST YEAR..THEN I THOUGHT HELL WHY DONT I JUST ADD A REALESE CLIP TO THE SPREADER BAR TEASER & RUN A HOOK BAIT FROM IT..& WHAT I MEAN BY THIS IS RUNNING THE SPREADER BAR FROM A TEASER REEL THEN A REALESE CLIP ON THE LAST SQUID...THEN I THOUGHT HELL I COULD ALSO DO THIS FROM MY SQUID TEASER ON THE OTHER SIDE & INCREASE MY SPREAD BY TWO RODS...NOW I WOULD ONLY DO THIS WHEN TUNA FISHING...WHY WELL MOST KNOW THE DEAL WHEN FISHING FOR BILLS LESS IS BETTER ....NOW YOU COULD INCREASE YOUR SPREAD & ALSO FIGHT THE FISH WITH OUT HAVING TO LEADER THE SPREADER BAR....NOW KEEP IN MIND I HAVE NOT DONE THIS YET BUT IM GOING TO TRY IT THATS FOR SURE....

ONE THING THAT YOU WANT TO DO WHEN TUNA FISHING FROM A SMALL RIG IS MAKE YOUR SPREAD LOOK AS BIG AS YOU CAN....THATS THE DISADVANTAGE WE HAVE WHEN FISHING FROM A SMALL RIG ..MOST OF US RUN 7 TO 9 LINE SPREADES WHEN THE BIG BOATS RUN 12 LINE SPREADS...SO EVERY ROD I CAN GET IN THE WATER THE BETTER & BIGGER MY SPREAD LOOKS TO A SCHOOL OF HUNGRY YELLOWFINS....

SO GIVE THIS TIP A TRY & REPORT BACK...

GOOD LUCK JIMMY K.

Then jimmy you should buy the up rigger to improve and enlarge your spread
Ive done the release clip not good on windy days and stops lure action Ive build bars every way how since 1980 and made them turn into daisy chains
all in one bar and live bait bars I all so use only 50 to 80 Lbs test on the two
end chains for better action and 150# on center line the center line must be
rigged from top thru the bar to the hook (NO BRAKES INBETWEEN) fight the
fish not the bar and use titanium bars for best results and action you dont
want to see the squids or anyother lures just being dragged along with the
titanium the flex goes back and forth again just my 2 cents

ps jimmy you make great stuff dude

maybe braid with a short mono leader and a small dental rubber band. that braid should saw the dental rubber band in no time and the braid is light enough to not inhibit the action??

I don't have nearly the experience as you guys, but I was also thinking in general. How affective is fishing with all daisy chain type rigs with hooks on more than one, similar to catching stripers schooling with multiple jigs. It seems that this would be more attractive than a single lure and also give you an opportunity for a multiple hook-up on one rig.

Fishdoc, the one hook deal is in case you hook into two, three or four Slobs at the same time, they would smash your rig to pieces.
Multiple hook rigs are ok when catching bait tunas but when targeting the Slobs you would be asking for trouble.

if u twist the line b4 putting it in the release clip you wouldn't affect the action of the bar

Best Catch: my wife, how cliche'
Occupation: does it matter?
doc,
another concern with that is if you hook only one fish you will have other free hooks flying around at boatside when leadering. Potential disaster.

UpRiggers are great tools for booby trapping spreaderbars (what I call running the chasebait with the hook in it off of a release clip at the rear of the bar or Toad Teaser). Run the bar or teaser off of the lower rod and the armed chasebait off of the upper rod. The rods line up vertically so they run perfectly together and as you can see, there is plenty of separation between them so that tangles just don't happen. Two rods are run out of each gunnel holder.

With this system the bars or Toads can remain in the water and working while the hooked fish run and in the case of tunas, a couple of the same size and color squids as the chasebaits can be dropped back to hook a couple of the fish that stay on the hookless bars, or a bally can be pitched to whitey (stripy in our case) if it's a pod of them that attacks the bars.

Bear in mind that the chasebait cannot be permanently attached to the bar as far as the new IGFA regs are concerned. This is the best way that I know of for meeting that requirement. Probably only important to tournament fishermen.

The photo with all of the writing points out a lot of the other benefits of UpRiggers, so I thought I'd throw it in. There's a third one of Captain Bob's Black Watch with six lines running off of three UpRiggers that I will post too (if I can find it) for those interested in getting "twice the bang" our of their rod holders.

I'd no sooner clear the harbor with no SuperBars aboard than I would my UpRiggers - they really are great fishing tools!
