TIP OF THE DAY IN CAROLINA WATERS....
AND I WANT TO HEAR IT FROM YOU GUYS......
FROM TRAILERING TO FILLETTING....FROM HOOKS....TO CRIMPING....FROM RIGGERS TO DEAD BATTERIES
IN A COUPLE SHORT SENTENCES BRING IT ON! ...AND NOT SOME BIBLICAL EPIC NEITHER ..JUST RENDER US A QUICK TIP TO MAKE IT THRU THE DAY!
MY TIP..........BAN ALL BUNGEES USED AS OUTRIGGER HALYARD TIE DOWNS.
IT WILL SPARE YOUR SHOULDER FROM SURGERY FROM NEEDLESS JERKING ON THE THING TRYING TO SET A RIGGER PIN IN PLACE PLACE NOT TO MENTION YOUR RIGGER LOOKS LIKE IT IS ABOUT TO SNAP WHEN USING A BUNGEE!

In keeping with Marty's outrigger halyard theme, on a typical 2-point outrigger system, if you align the two mount points on your outriggers with the mount point for your halyard pulley, you do not need a bungee, chinese handcuff, long/short stay, or any of the other rigs out there. You can just mount your pulley on mono, cable, etc. in one place so the halyards are tight, and the geometry of the system will keep your halyards at the same tension whether the riggers are deployed or stowed. Here's a pic, not to scale.

Keep the base of the rigger and the halyard attachment point on the same level and you will never have to adjust anything just crimp a piece of mono to the pulley and the 1/2 ring, stays the same tension up as when let out.

In keeping with the riggers, I- we use a glass ring for our teaser lines to run through, use to attach them with rigging floss, one day Mrs. Big came along and ate the teaser, damn near broke the rigger off. Now I use a small wire tie. Mrs. Big comes up and eats the teaser and now wire tie snaps, comes off rigger and tight on to rigger reel where I can deal with it easily....
This summer...saved by the wire tie...

Dredge pulleys, ropes attachment points on the rigger. Big Dog you got a glimpse of that system yesterday didn't you. Solves many an issue with dredges I cannot take credit for this one just improved on a system that i saw and liked.

It pays to use a shot of 60-80 lb mono at the bottom of your teaser set up just in case you get crushed and can't recover it won't rip you sh*t off.

Geez John. Marty said tip of the DAY. You're already on next Tuesday!

Keep a squeegy handy at the helm in the morning to clear off condensation and fogged curtains.-- no excuses. Some of you guys look like the little old ladies driving in the winter with a peep hole cleared of frost to see out of.

Redneck Holdzit
Get a crown royal bag and soak with favorite anti corrosive. Keep your crimping plies and other tools in it while offshore.
