    Tides

How important are tides while you are fishing offshore. I have been noticing that huge bulls dorados often hit lures between 11:30 to 1:30(reference my GPS from more than a year fishing) I’m telling these because I haven’t take into account tides.
If I know that at shore tide change is at X hour, how can I predict the hour it will change in the area Im fishing?

Thanks, I know some one there will help me

    Jp,

Not sure if I can answer your question. I don't really know if tides make a difference offshore. We fish along the tide line because of the color difference in the water but that is always within sight of land. Inshore we seem to catch alot of fish around inlets on a falling tide.

So far as the time your catching those dorado I remember when we were fishing in Guatamala each day between 11:30 and 1 we seemed to catch more dorado.

I guess depending on what your fishing for the time of day would have more importance offshore than the tide would.

I do not have an exact answer either, but every inshore fish I have ever caught is effected by tides. I think the same goes for offshore, but I have yet to find an accurate offshore tide chart. I do believe all fish are effected by tide in some way. The moon effects all oceans deep or shallow, in offshore waters this may be a trigger to feed just as much as the sunset or sunrise does. I would love to have that knowledge!!!

Wahoo especially bite on the tide change with the best being an hour before and after low tide. Although not to the minute accurate, you can use a tide chart for the nearest inlet to get you in the ballpark as far as time. You can set your watch to it though...you better be between 20-40 fathoms working some structure on a tide change.

Agree 100%. Love fishing around tide change for wahoo at Hatteras. Lots of locals down there swear by it.
