I'm just glad there are people out there who give more rights to a fucking bird than people. Thats gonna be great for the economy of the Outer Banks! who gives a flying fuck about an Oystercatcher or a Plover..I would love to shoot every last one of them and the Libs that make these rules.

The odd thing is that people are likely a low-level threat to the Piping Plovers. We have them here in New Jersey too and we go through the same beach closures due to their presence.

However, these stupid birds nest on the ground. If the conservation people would take into account the hawks, sea gulls, and foxes, those present a far greater threat to these birds.

I was down at Ocracoke this past weekend and one of these birding assholes walked by in front of us with his beard down to his navel holding his bird watching scope and video camera (he was obviously trying to capture evidence of closure encroachments). He gave us a disgusted look so I gave him the finger.

It is amazing the amount of misinformation that drives people's perception of this situation.

First, the American Oystercatcher is NOT endangered as stated! Heck, it is not even threatened which is the next lesser category. Even the piping plover, the bird used to justify these closures is not listed as endangered in NC !

Second, there is solid evidence that nearby human activity is actually beneficial to nesting shorebirds by running off their natural predators.

As Capt Lindsay notes, the recent Cape Hatteras National Recreation Area consent degree requires 1000 meter buffers - roughly 20 times the size of those required in other successful protection efforts. This last item is what is closing not just Cape Point but also Bodie Island spit, Hatteras Inlet spit, Ocracoke island on both ends --- all the best fishing areas. Cape Lookout will be soon closed.

Activist environmental groups combined with activist judges and a roll over NPS paid for by your tax dollars !!!!
