i agree! we cannot keep letting these LOONS take our rights away from us especially for a damn bird thats not even endangered or threatened.(so what if they were!) people need to unite on this issue and really fight it. if everyone just gathered in numbers and drove out on the beach..what the hell could they do? this issue really bothers me as well buddy!

I was actually planning to make a trip down there when I return from C.R. as I have been trying to get back into surf fishing the past couple of years. Won't be worthwhile for me now. Do these wacko bird freaks ever think of what it might do to the economy of these tourist oriented places they wish to protect when there is no access for the places and activities people go there for in the first place. I know I'm just one but how many others are deciding not to go there as well?

They don't care what happens to the people, look at the comments on the article that I linked to. They want the Entire Outer Banks returned to the way it was 500 years ago. They say the outer banks should not have been developed in the first place.

American Oystercatchers (the species that caused the latest on a long list of beach closures) are NOT ENDANGERED or even THREATENED!!!! They are listed as a species of concern in only one state, North Carolina. Your readers are getting a false impression of what's going on here on the Outer Banks. Cape hatteras Nation seashore Recreational Area is one of only five areas in the entire country designated as a RECREATIONAL AREA and the only SEASHORE RECREATIONAL AREA in the country! As a result of the CONsent decree that currently directs the National Park Service, instead of having a RECREATIONAL AREA with some bird and turtle closures, we now have bird and turtle closures with some recreational areas. It's a TRAVESTY! Our local economy is taking a beating as a result and I feel you should be more sensitive to what's going on here! If more people knew the truth instead of the mis-information and green-wash that's constantly regurgitated from the environmentalists' press releases (lies), WE MAY ACTUALLY GET SOME HELP HERE!!! Please at least read the commentary by Dr. Mike Berry. he's an environmental scientist with several decades of experience in the Federal Government. He points out many, many facts that prove the CONsent decree is invalid, has broken many Federal rules of process, is over-burdensome on the local community and has no PEER REVIEWED SCIENCE to back it up. Not to mention, Judge Terrence Boyles' background of having cases overturned because of an unwillingness to recuse himself from cases he has a personal interest in. (G.E. to name one) This entire situation we find ourselves in is INTOLERABLE and we need our Local and State-wide media outlets to help us, instead of assiting those who seek our demise!!!
