Thinking about moving to South Carolina...

I have a job opportunity out of Myrtle Beach. What I'm asking you guys is what is your gut instinct with all the crap going on in this economy about me coming into a pretty well established charter operation this summer. The money thing is worked out tenatively. The guy is Captain Drew Shytle and the boats a 31 yellowfin. I would start around april 15th.

    Any opinions appreciated...

    Mike

LOTS OF MONEY IN MYRTLE BEACH DURING THE SEASON..

AND YOU ARE NOT FAR FROM THE LIVE BOTTOM GROUNDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CAPE FEAR RIVER REGION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SHOAL

BISCOTO RULES THE ROOST ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SHOAL

THE NEGATIVE TO MYRTLE IS THE LONG ASS RUN TO 40 FATHOMS.....NOW AS FOR THE THE SCENERY....WELL, THERE IS PLENTY OF IT

GOOD LUCK WITH THS CAPITANO! I AM ONLY 3 HRS CROW FLIGHT FROM THE REGION

I agree with Box. Myrtle Beach is crazy with tourons during the summer months, so I think you could stay busy. Memorial Day till Labor Day is mostly the vacation season. I do not go to Myrtle during those months, but take the wife there during the offseason. Also, like mentioned earlier you are looking at a long run to the stream, but some really good fishing in that area. Either way SC would love to have ya and I really like Yellowfins!! Good Luck with the decision!

The next bite on a jig.
Do it. The good part of the yellowfin is that it will get you there quickly. Bad part is that you won't be able to go offshore some days.

With your inshore experience though, you can develop that as a back up for days you can't get out. I will tell you about the spanish hole if do go for it via PM.

    Mike,

Im about 30 mi e. of MB. You will like the scenery in the summer. Major drawback is it is a haul if you want to go to the stream. Lots of good areas out of Little River to fish for Kings and Mahi. From there up to the shoals at frying pan there are a lot of artificial reefs and hard bottom areas for bottom fishing. Decent Tarpon fishery around the river mouths and along the shoals in the summer months. With a 31 Yellowfin you can get to the stream quickly on good days to target tuna, mahi, and wahoo. If you play golf there are tons of courses there and Ace can probably show you around his hunting grounds.

    Jim,

Where is this spanish hole? Never heard of it.

If you are unsure about the Capt, give Capt Brant a call at OIFC, Capt Chris Burress or any of them over there, they may be familar. There is great fishing in that area year round. trout and reds through the winter, big reds even show up at the jetties, the kings will be within a stones throw of the beach in Sept and Oct and Mahis and sails can be caught regularly around the Jungle and some other great spots like Atlantic ledge. But getting to the STREAM I do not think you can get there from MB, nah just kidding but with a 31 yellowfin, shooooot hop skip and jump for that rocket ship but she is gonna use the fuel. Put'em on the dash and lets roll cause that yellowfin will get u there and back what a GREAT ride. Call me I will go, I love a yellowfin 23to a 36 my favorite CC on the market today with the Contender close behind but I am waiting to win the lottery for my 36 yellowfin. good luck let us know what you do, I do a lot of day trips seeing it only takes me 1 hr 45 mintues to get there.
