That's One Strong Fish,
Well I can't say I did it on purpose or that it was a record or anything. But I caught my first Blue Marlin yesterday out of Oregon Inlet. Beautiful day some gaffer's, one really nice yellowfin and a "small" blue. I've never fished for billfish before, but have had em' in the spread a few times. I have to say that I was quite impressed with this fish"s strength. Caught him on a lure I made myself,(as I do alot) just made it a bit more special. I do know that if I ever hook into a "big" blue, I'm walking away from the rod. Nothing as impressive as some of the story's some bring here, just thought I'd post this up on Marty's World. Frank
i caught my first blue a few weeks ago outta hatteras. he was a "small" one too weighing about 200lbs. he put on a good show and was a very strong fish. we missed one earlier that morning that weighed over double the one that we caught, and im kinda glad b/c that small one put a hurtin on my arm. congrats, glad you had a good trip. im from washington, nc by the way.
Way to go Frank!! Im still waiting for my first blue. Ive caught a striped and a sail while in Cabo, and a white off NC, but I have yet to catch any blue or a black let alone a decent sized one. To catch one off of a homemade makes it even better. Congrats again!
Great accomplishment. I want to see a pic of the home made lure. Truly does make it that much more special. The power of those fish is hard to put into words.
Congrats.

Marty and Brain put me on my first Blue several weeks ago, what a work out it was. 1 hour 19 min. a time in life I'll never forget. Congratulations on your first, thanks for sharing, this is the first thread I've read where someone has taken a Blue on a lure they made. Got Photos?
