Thumbs up Thanks From Miss Beulah

Thanks to the GOOMBAY, RUN-OFF, COAST GUARD, And TOW BOAT US for your assistance on Friday. She is back on the hard and all the crew is safe and sound. She will be back on the water after the three foot hole is patched in the bottom. How she stayed afloat is a sure miracle, and those who assisted are angels in my book. Thanks again guys.

It is a pretty long story. Struck something submerged that punched a hole vertically up into the hull just forward of the engine room bulkhead. Hole was over 2 feet across, the forward berth was waist deep in water in minutes. Somehow managed to use the big old Carolina Flair as planer to keep the bow above water, and the props in the water. Two big gas powered pumps running full bore the whole 4 hour plus ordeal getting the boat back in. Pumps couldn't get ahead pumping 500 gallon a minute. There is no logical reason why that boat is not on the bottom, and wasn't on it's way to the bottom in the first 15 minutes. Miracles do happen.

I was the one with the buckets! It really didn't do any good but it showed Miss Buelah that we were pulling for her. If three inch gas water pumps couldn't keep up, I am sure I didn't make too big of an effect with the buckets. I really knew we had a major hole when I came up with softball size chunks of a weedline in the buckets. As for getting back into the action I owe another big thanks to my friend Dave Ridgway, owner of the Fin Finder for letting me carry the crew of the Miss Buelah out the following two days for some major mahi maulin on the Fin Finder. When a horse bucks you off, the sooner you get back on, the better. If you have any pics of her underway with the toe rail at the surface, I would love to see them.

Had some Texas buddies in the same situation...

a few years back and the only reason they didn't sink was they were smart enough to use the intakes on the mains as pumps. I had never thought about that until then and just thought I would pass on a possible emergency option if you are taking on a ton of water.

Yep, big diesels make great pumps!
