Crab mustard is good
Team Still Think'n Blue Marlin Oregon Inlet
Alright...so it's day 2 of the Pirates Cove TUna ROundup....it's about 1130 - 1145 and we've got 1 32 pound Tuna and a Gaffer in the box...looking for the next Tuna WAM....off in the distance I see a really sharp color change and a couple of big charter boys out around 500 fathoms east of the Point..I start working Still Think'n towards the break...get through the break into some pure gulfstream Warm Water...just really good looking water...around 1200 the Left Short comes down Hard.....BLUE MARLIN BLUE MARLIN LEFT SHORT...He's greayhounding across the spread from left to Right and somehow manages to snake through all the lines without getting tangled....CLEAR THE LINES NOW...GET A HARNESS ON OTTER...she's a nice fish, we're thinking 250 - 300 pounder and she's heading for the deep blue with my G&H Black and Purple sea witch in tow on a Medium Ballyhoo...so we get all the lines clear and I get a good angle on the fish..I put Otter mid ship and start angling forward chasing down the blue one to get the release...about 10 minutes into the fight we get leader and the fish just goes ballistic and starts screaming off the line....OK the release is taken care of but we're nowhere close to closing the deal on this fish....Otter work the fish for about 45 good minutes, a couple of good jump seams before she finally gives it up and slides up next to the boat where Dave Linesberry can get the hook out....it is hooked right in the top of the mouth under the fat part of the bill....clean release on the fish and swims away happy and ready to go kill something else.....Celebration last night was epic to say the least and there were many fine folks there at the Tiki Bar in Pirates cove to see Otter swimming in the diesal fuel covered marina water.....classic air was attained on Otter's creeking......
So congratulations to my man Otter, also congrats to Tom Milan, Dave Linesberry and Mark Carstens on fantastic teamwork getting thsi fish to the boat...it was a great tournament even though we didn't get in the money, missed top Mahi by 1 pound and only was able to land 1 YFT and a bunch of gaffers.....Don has some video of the fish and we should be able to post it soon.....
