Sydzilla's dad rides on the biscuit

Ken E. (Sydzilla's dad) has been away from the salt for a bit, so when he got the call yesterday he said: "what time do I need to be there?"
We had coffee at 5 AM and launched by 5:40. Got the last spot at Wrightsville Beach public ramp. I can only imagine the frustration of those who arrived later!

Lil' Biscuit was first mate today and JMS-ILM second. Ken E. relegated to anchor duty!

We worked our way 38 miles offshore stopping here and there to jig bait. 2-3 from the South, turning glassy. Not much going on on the bottom, but between a school of peanuts hanging around the boat and some strikes on the light lines we were entertained.

Lil' Biscuit got a nice king after following him around the boat a couple of times


The bottom bite stayed slow, but we scratched a few here and there, including a couple of pretty tropicals


Matt had to go to a party this evening and Lil' Biscuit had a play date in the afternoon, so we had planned a short day.
On the way to the hill we could see storms between us and land so we decided to try for an inshore gag or two. What a humbling experience that was! The gags were there, but holding tight to structure and demolishing out terminal tackle on the bite before we could react!

Anchor boy was the only one up to the task today!


The storms burned out and we headed on home running 30 knots on glassy water.

Caught enough for dinner


We were blessed with a beautiful day in the ocean today. Played with mahis, groupers and kings. Got to watch a young sail sunning by a weed patch. Old turtles popping up here and there and dolphins playing.

Lil' Biscuit and Matt made it back in time for their dates!
Ken and I put the hurtin' on some Coronas.
Life is good.

Thanks brother Nick. I had a great time fishing on the Biscuit and visiting with you and your family (always do). You all are the best and I look forward to the next time we can get together with the families.

I'm going to cook up some fish tonight for the dirls (thanks) and of course do some "peal-and-consume" shrimp (thanks Matt you filled the one request that I always get when going fishing from my wife "bring me back some shrimp").

Marty - "play date" is a modern term used nowadays for kids getting together to play at one of the families houses.
