Swell Rider Sportfishing Report.. Atlantic Beach,NC 08/09
Well after reading all the great reports from yesturday I figured I better post our report. I've had tons of success bottom fishing this year boat loads of fish trip after trip. This was not one of those trips, I new it was coming it was only a matter of time. First stop was on a wreck that I fished many times before, loaded with fish big Sea Bass and plenty of them, no sooner do we get set up and here come the dive boats, not 1 but 4, no ediquet just anchore up right on me and send the divers in. Headed offshore to a couple more areas that I've been working found some nice b liners and more dive boats, just made it very tough to fish. Bounced around a bit found a few really nice Kings and a couple Mahi. I was able to scatch a day out of it and the people were happy that's all that really matters. I've been spoiled this last month fishing back at home out of Wrightsville Beach, land of the live bottom and Grouper Heaven. Tomorrow's another day!!! Capt Ken

At least Pepe(Le'pu not Lopez) didn't ride home with you
The real reports are just as welcomed as the others Ken. At least you were fishing. Now that you got the funk off....God help em next time.
Some questions regarding the dive boats...
Is there not a law about how close hook and liners can pull up to them at anchor with divers down and start dropping baits? Why is it that they can move in so close and expect you to quit fishing? Do they even care if you fish near the divers? Do the divers shut the bite down?...I assume the fish quit looking for eats and start looking for somewhere to run or hide. Can you elaborate some of your experiences as to whether or not divers affect the bite adversely? Perhaps they spark curiousity out of some fish?
Get em next time.

I try and extend the respect and give everyone all the room the need when fishing. like you know when your bottom fishing too much action one the piece isn't good at least when grouper fishing. As for the dive boats, they're not suppose to be able to anchore up on you when your fishing. If you tell the CG they will go and speak with the dive boat, so they say!! It definiatly shuts the fishing down, 20 plus guys swimming around on the bottom. I anchored up on a 3 wrecks yesterday and all 3 time the dive boats came right in and dropped the hook. Bite shut right down...Thats the nice thing about fishing out of Wrightsville Beach, so much bottom I hardly ever fish near anyone and your options are endless, can't say the same for AB.. At it again tomorrow. Ken

Thanks for the report Ken and I understand your frustration on the Dive boats...... Summer is here and they are out in full force. I wouldn't care if they stayed off the other end of the wreck which sometimes can be quite long. Each time the divers have come immidiately right under our boat and we had to pack up. The temptation to hook one of those two legged fish has been pretty strong though !!!!!
