    Suggestions for this Sunday

    Hey Guys,

I'm looking to take the wife out fishing on Sunday and would like to know what some good options are. There doesn't seem to be any recent near shore reports anywhere.

I can head out from MHC down to Southport, NC. She's not going to want to take a long ride out to bluewater, maybe 15 miles out at the most. Not the most apt bottom fisherman so I was thinking of focusing on kings or jigging for AJ's if someone can send me in the right direction.

    Thanks,
    Tim

anchor up on an AR with carolina rigs and mullet minnows, and float a balloon or fly a kite for kings. Thats my plan. Catch redfish, flounder, grey trout, speckled trout, spanish mackerel, bluefish and kings. This time of year nearshore AR's are dynamite for beginners because something is always biting, and it probably won't be something like an AJ that will just whip their butts. Personally, I prefer to start people off with a little smaller stuff.

We have another Tropical visitor on the way Tim. Might try to keep her on this side of the sandbars this weekend. Maybe Flounder, Reds, Sheeps...something like that on the inside would be an option. You would not be the first to catch a King trolling in the channels just inside the inlets either. Good luck...maybe a local will chime in with some more specific info. Things should be starting to get right though.
    Looking forward to a report.

Good to hear the AR's have some AJ's we can chase. She hasn't caught a barracuda so that could be a lot of fun! Thanks!

I was thinking about chumming a wreck or AR. As long as it isn't choppy at all, she get sick easy. Stacy like big fish actually. She fights them till she get tired, hands the rod to me until she feels better...repeat.

Thanks Hol but I think the weather looks pretty good for Sunday. I just don't know anything about fishing inside and I don't want Stacy getting bored.

I'm thinking Southport is my second choice behind New River. The holiday weekend will be crazy and the launch on Camp Lejuene is always soooo much less crowded. We'll see.

No need to run all the way to Southport from MHC.

I would start either live baiting or bottom fishing at the AR 315 right off the beach... look for spanish on the way out.

If that doesn't produce what you want, head to the AR 330 (crazy top water Amberjack bite there a few weekends ago)
... and the furthest you would need to go is the Hutton, which is loaded with Jacks and an awesome gaffer Dolphin bite. I even raised a few sailfish there a few weekends ago.

All of this is within 12 miles of the inlet. No need to jump the shoals for good fishing this time of year!

Good luck to ya! Keep us posted.

I like to start newbies off with some spanish fishing if it is calm. This time of year, spaniards and blues should be thick. Take some spinners with maria jigs and use those once you find the fish.

I agree hooking a lady novice up with a big AJ could be fun...or not!

    Good luck.
