Riding down a dirt road at 10,000 ft. We are approaching a tiny stream passing under the road and the BOX goes NUTS. Stop the truck, stop the truck he hollers.
Now mind you Utah is in a severe drought and this trickle of water is 1" deep and about 12" wide. But just after it passes under the road it fans out to about a 6' wide pool and still only about 2" deep, I swear that is all.
I stop the truck 30 yards from the stream and the BOX jumps out, runs to the rear of the truck and you guessed it, grabs a fishing pole with some kind of lure on it.
Remember he is deer hunting with the bow. In his camo, he quietly and stealthly sneaks up to the pool and casts.
I sometimes wonder if the lure actually made it into the water before the 6" brook trout latched on.
The Box had caught his trophy fish on virtually dry land. How that fish had survived and what made the Box think there was a fish in that pool I will never know. But as some has said, the Box can find a fish anywhere.
P.S. I remind you again we were chasing 180" class trophy mule deer. If only I knew about videos then. This video would have been priceless. The Box screaming, hollering about his fish.
A 6" brook trout was truly bigger to him at that time than a World Record Buck.
