    Stretch 25 on Flatline?

Was wondering if anyone has had luck running a strectch 25 off a flat line. I caught several kings last year on them but the drag had to be cranked to hold and if the wrong person and sometimes me grabs the rod with fish on and the heavy (star) drag could not be backed off fast enough and fish lost. Will a flatline be able to hold the stretch 25 so the reel can be fished with a lighter drag? Thanks, Netman

Manns Stretch 25 - deep diving plug - runs approximately 25 feet deep - but I've never used them like this -

Do you mean a flatline clip? If so ... It seems like that lure would generate too much pressure for a clip to hold. I could be wrong though. I have never really cranked down a flatline clip to see how tight it would get.

Exactly! Thanks for clarifying my question. Was wondering if a clip would be able to hold it. Not sure of # pressure but I would think 6# or more. May have to try and report back if no one has tried.

Stretch 25 in what we call SMOKE, they outfished our blues and strip bait/sea witch 3-1 on our boat.

For me, I don't like to run anything like this on my boat. I don't think that you will find a flatline clip that will hold this. A bent butt rod will do what you want to do with out the flatline clip...

    Netman,

I don't believe you'll have luck with the flat line, But they do work with an Aftco roller snap on the center rigger. Way back and up high. I use them quite often myself. Frank

    I Forgot,

I use the stretch 30's which are bigger and pull harder. The length of the line (and resulting scope) will help dampen the shocky pull that will trouble you up close. Frank

They work pretty well fished slow, less then 3-4kts. A heavy mono leader will cause them to pull pack to the surface if fished too far back. We used them one winter out at 210 Rock to mangle up quite a few kings, fished on the flat 20ft. off the stern using a couple heavy rubber band together to hold them, the slow speed really makes them wobble, I mean swim

I don't like them b/c you can't pull them fast. If you want a deep diver, try the Rapalas. They track straight and can be trolled much faster.
There is NO need to put them in your flatline clip. You don't need any kind of drop back for a diving plug. Also, using a limber tipped rod helps them stay down.
