STIMULUS PACKAGE 4 COMM/CHARTER INDUSTRY

Like most of the tuna fishermen that have come in and out of Capt. Joe Shute's Bait & Tackle the last few weeks, they don't worry about a stimulus package, just the opportunity to fish thru February on a quota that is 500 metric tons away from being filled. That would be stimulus enough for alot of our local economy as well as many southern and northern hard working tuna fishermen!

I don't know what good would come of it, but this web-site might just be a way to help get the season to be extended. It might be too late for this season, but may be not for next season. Here we probably have the largest majority of charter captains, mates, commercial fishermen, tackle manufactures, tackle shops, boat dealers and boat manufactures, not to mention the occasional governmental represenatives than any other fishing site around. Sounds like a lot of clout to me. I am sure there are some out there that might know the right people we need to put a bug in the political ear to help the fishermen. Just a thought!

I don't know what the harm is in letting run right through, they can always close it if need be, they used to do that to us all the time, for crying out loud we used to have fishing days and monthly quotas to stretch out the season! I mean in October I bet we used to fish for a week or ten days and that was it....I say let it run and let the fishermen catch the fish....

Unfortunately it does all come down to politics. They claim they want to fill the quota so we don't have to give a part of the quota to another country. then they close a fisheries with so much quota left. Before long all we will be left with is 200 tons a year, if we have any at all before long! I am afraid that the scientist and conservationist are tryiing to totally shut down the fisheries. It just doesn't make sense. If ASMFC wants the quota met, shutting it down make no sense.

From my best understanding of it, the scientists and fisheries only reason for the season closure is to protect the GBFT breeding stock from being targeted during there spawning season in the Gulf of Mexico. If that's the only problem then it's simple.... close the fishery in the gulf from Jan-June and let the season run the same as our permits (jan.1-dec31) or the quota is meet for the entire east coast north of cape canaveral fl.. These fish don't care about our calender as the bite has shone in the past few days.... they are only late in our own minds. the us fisherman deserve a chance to get them when they are available, especially when the penalty for not catching the fish is to lose them to other countries which will make use of the quota.... be it they large or small. Mexico has been pursuing quota for the gulf for quite a while now.

Here, here. For the record the man I wanted to when didn't, I will however support our president anyway I can. I actualy hope that in 4 years he, we are doing so well that I want to vote for him.

We have a great country, yesterday for the 44th time in our short history we had a smooth peaceful transition of power. Pretty awesome with the different ideals social and political that we can do that. When many countries change of power comes on the tail of war, violence, or pure coruption.
