stiff rig / single and double

Posting this up here to see what ya'lls responses are, to see how you do it:

How are ya'll making your stiff rigs? I've been making them in the past out of just sevenstrand wire, crimps, some loop protectors, all this has been alright, but the slackest part of the rig was the electrical tape because I could not find very good heat shrink.

Heres the next thing, i got some of what was suppost to be heavy duty shrink from J&M, its sorta stiff, but nothing like the Ancor Marine shrink i saw on a fellas boat this summer. anyone know where to order the Ancor, black, heavy duty shrink?

I bought a few new lures this winter and I am trying to make some rigs that will not be torn up as fast as the previous electrical tape ones. This is all going along with the circle hook ruling also, so maybe someone might pick up a few pointers that dont involve ballyhoooos.

Could someone show a few pictures if they are really proud of their rigs and how they attatch them to the mono leader...

    thanks- Joseph

This comming from a lure maker.... Just my opinion and not the only way to do it...

I double my leader measured from the recess in the head to where the hook is even with the bottom of the skirt. I run the hook end crimp up tight against a tight fitting thimble (plastic or aluminum). At the other end I leave a short tag to "Lock" in the head. Then I Use electricians tape to add a bit more stiffness.

You will not see double hook rigs on my lures. Several reasons. First most lures including mine troll better with single. Theres no problems with skirt wrapping up around the inner hook either. Then you are also not sharing the hook setting pressure between two points. Instead you have the pressure being applied to just one. Then theres the safety thing. With one hook in and one out of a fish you are asking for trouble come unhooking or boating time from the free one...

    Great points there Deep.

I would love to see your rigs look like if you get a chance to post a picture.

I use the thick heat shrink and then wrap it with electrical tape. Color of tape depends on the color of the lure.

I get my Anchor shrink at our local hardware store. I believe that West Marine carries it too.

Again I keep it simple. I don't feel good about adding any more than necessary. Often I dont even tape my rigs. Double 400 hard shell sufix is fairly stiff on its own.

hey deep- thanks. i like the way you do that with the wrapped leader between the 2 crimps.

do you do anything to keep the lure from sliding up the leader as you're pulling it? I've seen some people do a few things to achieve this.

Hey box, were you able to find the video you were looking for?

    thanks for the help.
