    Steeples Saturday 11/7

Fished with the neighbors on their new to them 30 Grady Marlin. Got out there kind of late, got all the lines in around 10:00. By 1:30 had put one 25lb king in the box and was getting bottom rigs ready when they started biting. Ending up losing a half dozen fish, boxed 3 blackfins and a false albacore, released a half dozen more albies. Lost what I think was a big wahoo when it snapped 80 lb mainline, fished off a poor mans downrigger (planer cleated off and fishing line run down with paperclip and rubber band). About 3:00 blackfins and FA's started busting on top and I was wishing for a spinning rig and a jig or popper.

sounds like you had plenty of action anyway. What do you think caused the 80# to break?

Ol' scissorlips will cut through 80lb like butter. Not a far cry this time of year.

broke in the middle of the topshot, all I can figure is that the shock of a big fish running after the slack from the rubber band popping came out snapped it. There must have been a weak spot in the line somewhere. I had wire on all my rigs.
