Landed on the Rig on Monday morning. Rig has been on the site for about a week and a half. We are in the neighbor hood of 3 production spars and my buddies rig the Cajun Express.

Big Big Tuna and numerous Bills around. Watched one blow up on a school of smaller tuna around sunset tonite. Ill report more as I see it. We are about 100-120miles off the beach so hopefully I will see a few boats out here and get some live reports off of them as it happens.

Good luck Box and everyone else fishing the Barta

Most fun Ive had during the shittiest of situations.

Second day we had the boat running all season, left at about 0430 and headed out Wellfleet Harbor in some of the thickest fog I have ever been in (no radar). So after weighing the risks, we pushed out to the race. Set the spread of four bars and started marking bait and some fish in about 130 ft of water. No love. Sun broke through around 8am and we pushed out off of Peaked Hill, found a few whales and bait, got covered with big blue fish. Fog rolled in and I made the call to head back in, few thunderstorms to the north and to the west.

Back inside around Wood End my brother Badger and I started dropping some Vertical Jigs to some marks around 115ft. Around the time we thought our efforts were fruitless and we were going to head in, we noticed some chop on the water moving in a direction other than it was supposed to. Casting rods were armed and we put ourselves in position to intercept. First stop my brother drops a cast rite in the middle of the chop, bout a 100+/- Bluefin turns on his popper and charges only to fade back and rejoin the school. Next cast he makes, a bigger fish takes a swing on it and that was all my brother needed, he put the rod down shaking. Hes never seen a fish first hand over 50lbs before and 2 fish was to much.

Reposition the boat so I can have a crack at them and suddenly the engine shuts itself down. My dad, Rando, and I pop the cowling of and find bits of shredded plastic everywhere. Turns out the spring pin on fly wheel backed it self out, which allowed the bolts holding the wheel to the shaft to shear. Now Im dead in the water. F*CK!

For the next 2 hours till Seatow got out there, my dad, brother and I laughed our asses of about everything that we did right for the start of the season, and the fact that we were in the middle of a freakfest with 10-15 different schools of BIG tuna pushing water all around us. Managed a few more casts to the different schools that came rite by but they were far to interested in what ever bait they were killing to go after anything we had to offer.

The entire ride in, the crew on the Seatow boat out of Sesuit kept puttin their hands up to show the size of the tuna they saw. Only reason I wasnt completely batsh*t was the fact that those tuna were there, pretty impressive to see.
We called a stick boat in on the schools once we realized were were very well out of the game, not to sure how they did.

Gotta send a big thanks to Capt Vin of the Seaker for keeping me sane during the remainder of the week. We got back out for one more day of the week after doing the repairs and managed a slob striper on an OTI jig.
